JOB TITLE: Legal Practice Manager

LOCATION: Northampton (Travel to Cambridge - Once / Twice per week)

SALARY: Negotiable - Daily rate

CONTRACT PERIOD: Initially up to 6 months

You will be responsible for running the Legal department(s) of these two local authorities - reporting in to the Head of Legal.

You do not necessarily need to have come from a legal background but it would be highly beneficial because you will be managing the support service for both counties, working directly for the Director of Law Governance. The department deals with Risk, insurance, procurement etc...).

A key part of the role would be to play a strategic part in carrying one of the main projects forward within the law service i.e.: IT - CCC & NCC are joining forces and putting plans together to have 1 IT department.

YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE:

- Be educated to Degree level OR have a business management qualification (such as MBQ) OR have a legal qualification
- Have significant experience of managing business support functions underlying a legal practice, otherwise known as legal practice management
- Been a manager of a team / have managerial experience (20 people report to this post)
- Ensured that financial systems are fit for purpose and to contribute to budget setting and financial planning for the team
- Developed business plans, strategies AND monitored performance
- Line managed staff, providing leadership where necessary
- Financial systems experience (to be able to manage your budget and financial planning)
- Ensured adequate provision and maintenance of ICT Systems including case management and research facilities
- Understand Law Society quality management
- Ability to think strategically in a business environment
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Interpersonal skills and be a team player
- Client focussed and well versed in customer care skills
- IT Skills: Microsoft Office suite, Internet search and retrieval, bespoke software including performance and case management
- Ability to demonstrate awareness / understanding of equal opportunities and other peoples' behaviour, physical, social and welfare needs

Desirable Criteria

- Experience and skills in the area of change management
- Experience of the IKEN case management system
- Experience of working in a Lexcel Accredited environment and of maintaining and implementing the relevant processes and securing continued accreditation
- Finance and accountancy / bookkeeping skills
- Experience of producing, implementing and marketing strategies
