Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Main Accountabilities

Accountable for the successful delivery of the technical aspects of mechanical work packages
Ensure that the mechanical design meets all requirements, including signing off all relevant verification and validation activities
Ensure that a life cycle process is followed, including the appropriate design reviews
Ensure the required Assurance Technical aspects are consolidated and approved at the appropriate review gates
Ensure that all relevant design documentation and drawings are generated and issued at the appropriate gate reviews
Ensure that verification and validation plans are generated and issued at the appropriate gate reviews
Ensure that all mechanical interfaces are accurately defined
Ensure that new designs are suitable from a manufacturing, assembly and test perspective
Ensure that the relevant product structures and Bill of Materials are maintained
Support the mechanical aspects of risk reviews
Support the Programme Manager in the development of project plans
Support the systems engineering team in the generation of mechanical requirements
Support customer interfacing on mechanical issues (eg presentation of technical reports)

Essential Experience/Competencies

5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience
Experience of having been through the entire design life cycle more than once
Experience of owning complex mechanical design projects
Experience of working on high integrity/high reliability projects
Experience of leading design reviews
Experience of authoring technical documentation (design reports, test plans, etc.)
Experience of producing test and verification plans
Experience of working in inter-disciplinary teams (primarily system and electronics engineers)
Experience of working on space projects would be a distinct advantage, but is not strictly essential

The will be a requirement to undergo an SC clearance process unless already cleared. All Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
