Lead Mechanical Design Engineer - Packaging Electronics - Pro-E

Packaging Electronics - you will essentially be designing highly aesthetic plastic enclosures for really tight electronics, working mostly on new products so previous experience in this area is vital

Responsibilities:

. Assist with the development of product requirements and to give guidance on feasibility of new products.

. Leading the mechanical design of new products

. Sub-supplier Design Management

. Design reviews

. Working with project management to estimate time, manpower, development cost and product cost related to mechanical design.

. Ensuring designs and new product developments are delivered on time

. Current product maintenance, value engineering and component engineering

. Familiarity with relevant standards, and design for compliance

. Support Manufacturing issues when proven root cause is base design (not quality/process)

Team management:

. Directing the day to day design activities of a small team of mechanical designers

. Working with a team located across more than one location

. Continuous improvement of the team by way of mentoring, training and appraising

. Skills and Qualifications:

. A good understanding of several areas of mechanical design

. Ideally educated to degree level in mechanical engineering

. Experience in an engineering design capacity

. Experienced in leading major design projects from concept to manufacture

. Proficient in the use of Pro-E software, which consist of, steel fabrications and pressings, injection mouldings and extrusions

. Good appreciation of modern manufacturing methods

. Good team player and leadership skills

. Good problem solving/analysis skills

Desired

. Experience with FEA tools

. Experience with Virtual Moldflow analysis for design confidence

. Ideally you will have practical experience of Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning.
