LABORATORY MANAGER/ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST/LEIDEN, NETHERLANDS/12 MONTHS CONTRACT/32 TO 50 EUR (PER HOUR)

As a lab manager/associate scientist molecular bacteriology your main field of interest is molecular bacteriology. You will work in a multidisciplinary research team that identifies, designs, produces and characterizes new vaccine candidates. Bioinformatics, molecular engineering, functional genomics, molecular microbiology, and biochemistry are key R&D activities.

You will use your expertise to execute complex experiments with a high level of autonomy. Your core expertise is bacterial genetics and biochemistry which will be used to dissect and understand host-pathogen interactions. In addition to experimental activities, organizational responsibility for the Bacterial Vaccines laboratories is an important managerial task. In collaboration with a companion lab manager you will be held responsible for a number of general tasks, including but not limited to ordering of laboratory supplies, EHS, and communication with and management of external and internal support functions.

- Practical experience
- Basic Microbiology Practice: bacterial cultivation and strains identification
- Basic molecular biology tecniques: DNA-, RNA-, Protein Isolation and the associated analytical methods
- Microscopy Techniques
- Perform genetic manipulation of bacteria
- Perform small-scale recombinant protein expression and purification
- Plan and perform experiments and tests
- Consulting with (senior) scientist
- Arrange necessaries for tests/experiments
- Set up assays (performing literature studies and consulting catalogues)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

HBO education or equivalent level

3-5 years work experience
