Junior Linux Service Engineer

The JUNIOR LINUX SERVICE ENGINEER position is for the Server Lifecycle team. This position is part of a diverse technical team supporting the enterprise server environment. This role will have operational responsibilities as well as a role as part of a project team. Part of this role will be to provide daily support for life cycle change execution, and to be responsible for the operation and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. Excellent communication and customer service skills, along with the ability to work well in team settings are key factors for the successful candidate.

This role would be accountable for executing Server Lifecycle strategy and server patching integration, automation and documentation for the team. The expectation is this role would serve as the junior Linux Engineer for all server Lifecycle activities, participating in the execution, escalation, and troubleshooting of Linux server changes within the enterprise under the guidance and direction of the Senior Linux Engineer.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

- Bachelor's Degree and at least 2 years background in Linux Server Administration including but not limited to OS, Firmware, Hardware Types and industry accepted Linux tools
- Experience patching Linux Servers within an enterprise environment
- Ability to participate in problem investigation and resolution within the Linux platform, identifying and documenting root cause
- Be well organized and have the ability to participate in medium to complex initiatives
- Demonstrates fundamental proficiency in the Linux platform as it applies to work assignments
- Able to work with the platform with minimal supervision, direction and support
- Able to accomplish core tasks using the platform with reference aids and as part of a team Able to apply changes in the environment of the platform
- Demonstrates the ability to apply major changes or develop new functions with the RH Linux Platform
- Fundamental understanding of the design/operation of the product
- Critically evaluates the implications of technological changes affecting or related to the product as part of a project team
- Demonstrates the ability to anticipate, identify, reproduce, eliminate, and resolve problems in a professional and consultative manner
- Able to decompose complex issues into meaningful and manageable parts
- Creates contingency plans and develops alternative solutions
- Escalates difficult problems in a timely manner, only after exhausting all possibilities for resolution within scope of responsibilities
- Capable of finding solutions and answers beyond the area of specialty
- Is aware of technological trends and new products and tools which can improve the effectiveness of systems and products
- Provides input and technical guidance as part of a project team to include task planning, task definition, estimating, reporting, scheduling, and workflow

DESIRED SKILLS:

- RH Certification
- Experience with RH Satellite Server
- Experience with Puppet
- Working knowledge of other server operating systems (Solaris, Windows)
- Change Management experience
