Projektbeschreibung

We are looking for a Java Software Engineer to join the Reactome project, part of the Proteomics Services Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) which is located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.

EMBL-EBI provides cutting edge research and services for biomolecular data. In international collaboration, Reactome provides a curated database of human pathways ().

The post involves further development/maintenance of core database applications and web services, web applications and data quality management systems and the successful candidate will work on projects funded by the new Centre for Therapeutic Target Validation (CTTV); a collaboration between EMBL-EBI, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (WTSI) and GlaxoSmithKline (). The position is embedded in the Reactome team with sites in Cambridgeshire, New York and Toronto.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should have a degree in computer science or bioinformatics and be able to demonstrate a minimum of 3 or more years experience in Java software development, ideally in a life science environment.

It is essential for the post-holder to have a profound knowledge of Java and a good knowledge of Unix/Linux. Experience in relational databases, data management and query systems as well as experience with JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3 and RESTFul services are also required. Candidates who can demonstrate knowledge of Tomcat, SQL, Maven, Lucene/Solr, XML technologies, Spring, Jersey, GWT, HTML5 Canvas, would have a distinct advantage.

The ideal candidate will be expected to work independently and will interact well within a highly international distributed team environment. (S)he will be expected to collaborate closely with developers, bioinformaticians, scientists across EMBL-EBI and with external partners so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
