Infrastructure Specialist - Linux - HPC - Packaging Tools - Parallel F

For one of our clients, we are currently looking for Infrastructure Specialist for Linux and HPC based in Basel for their Technical Operations team on the Linux research platform and HPC environment.

The position will involve working with our scientists on their Linux application needs and translating this to core infrastructure needs provided in partnership with our service providers
Knowledge of scientific application build and tuning, Linux system administration, high performance compute and storage systems, Scripting and a develops approach to platform administration are all key requirements.

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:
o Assist on the delivery of the technical operations linux application environment and new HPC infrastructure and evolution of the current environments.
o Ensures installation, configuration and operation of the environments to achieve the performance and agility of the various applications supported (in the range of several hundreds).
o Manage scientific application and data analysis tool set build, installation, configuration, maintenance and tuning.
o Contribute to HPC/HTC workflow and job submission optimization activities
o Contributes to the concept, planning and execution of projects.

KEY SKILLS:

- Strong experience working with Linux/HPC environments
- Experience of Linux build and packaging tools (Make, CMake, Easybuild, RPM, Yum)
- Experience working with Parallel Filesystem - Lustre, GPFS and Scale-out NAS -Isilon
- DevOPS approach: configuration management (Bright, xcat, puppet), automated build/release test & deployment (eg jenkins, git)
- Workload management - SLURM, Torque, LSF
- Scripting: Shell, python, Perl
- Big Data frameworks - Hadoop, Mapreduce, Spark
- Monitoring tools/frameworks - nagios, ganglia, elk
- Programming skills in high level languages such as Java or C++ are a plus
- Virtualization and containerisation awareness
