HUMAN FACTORS DESIGN ENGINEER - CONTRACT - BEDFORDSHIRE

Our client is a defence engineering company conducting a wide variety of activities for the UK MoD and prime contractors across the wider UK and international defence communities. Due to our continued success, the company is undergoing an exciting period of growth across many domains. As a result we have a vacancy emerging for a high calibre Senior Human Factors Engineer to apply Human Factors Engineering principles across the full engineering life cycle supporting delivery of complex technical solutions. Reporting functionally to the head of department, the Senior Human Factors Engineer is required to join the Technical Operations department. Working as part of a multi-disciplined team within programmes the candidate will be expected to provide support to a range of projects during all life cycle phases ultimately reporting to a Chief Engineer.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Proven Professional Human Factors experience equivalent to a Registered Member of the IEHF Fully familiar with the relevant Defence Standards, ISO and Military Standards associated with Human Factors. Experience with IT based toolsets common to the human factors discipline

SPECIFIC JOB DESCRIPTION

- Developing Task Analysis data in design outputs, including Human Error analysis
- developing HCI for complex systems
- Reporting daily to programme assigned system design authority
- Reporting at least weekly, to the functional Lead of HF
- Review designs for products and associated support equipment from HF requirements perspective
- The development of HF acceptable risk to the project
- Conduct HF workshops with customers including MoD user community to produce design decisions
- Technical report writing of the HF workshops and assessments carried out
- Producing HF requirements to reflect the Def-Stan 00-250, ISO standards and customer requirements to the design teams and sub-contractors and a definition and statement of work
- Monitoring of sub-contractor delivery against requirements and statement of work
- Evaluate the interrelationship of HF requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective program
- Conduct HF trials on projects
- Producing HF test schedule, procedure and reports for HF trials
- Conduct HF CAD assessments with manikins of project design
- Conduct HF assessments of related Environmental, Safety and Maintainability areas
- Development of documents to quality and time as driven by schedule and programme needs
- Presentation of analysis, conclusions, status to design forums
- Review of design and requirement documentation for HF influence

REQUIRED SKILLS

- Proven Professional Human Factors experience equivalent to a Registered Member of the IEHF Fully familiar with the relevant Defence Standards, ISO and Military Standards associated with Human Factors. Experience with IT based toolsets common to the human factors discipline
- Experience in Pro-engineer or related CAD tool and Human Factors Anthropometric Manikins
- Knowledge of DOORS and Task Architect
- Knowledge of key HF environmental areas of Noise, Vibration, Lighting, Thermal and CBRN

DESIRED SKILLS:

- Applies human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products.
- Develops and implements research methodologies and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes used in new products and processes, such as cockpit designs, user workstations, and computerized human models. Interfaces with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces.
- Identifies and analyses technological problems or risks, performs theoretical human factors investigations, and develops and implements research and analysis plans.

TYPICAL MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Ideally require a Bachelors degree from an accredited college and capability typically achieved through around 9 years of professional experience. Will also consider individuals with equivalent experience/combined education. Considered an emerging authority
