My London based Public Sector client is seeking a Head of Commercial/Commercial Director/Head of Commercial Strategy for an initial 6 month contract.

Key Tasks for the Head of Commercial/Commercial Director/Head of Commercial Strategy:
* Build and develop a commercial function which supports the organisation's development into an intelligent customer of services to support the client as it transitions to a digital service;
* Develop a commercial strategy for the organisation and work collaboratively across the organisation to deliver the strategy;
* Taking the initial commercial lead on significant contract requirements to develop detailed commercial approaches, and then working closely with the procurement function to help define procurement approaches and delivery of value for money commercial outcomes. The initial commercial thinking is likely to require the post holder to address commercial bundling approaches, lot structure, requirements articulation, commercial principles, risk allocation;
* Commercial leadership of early market engagement activity to test market viability, including developing effective market engagement mechanisms to enable such interaction whilst remaining within procurement parameters;
* Commercial support for, and assurance of, business requirements - both functional and non-functional through closely working with business stakeholders;
* Leading on the development of commercial principles for each deal and ensuring their effective incorporation in service agreements;
* Develop key stakeholder relationships within the organisation across government and the supply side to ensure value for money commercial structures and contracts are developed;
* Manage a portfolio of multifaceted commercial projects and commercial transactions;
* Embed best practice across commercial categories bringing significant commercial knowledge;
* Play a leading role in the development of business cases and commercial strategies for major contracts;
* Develop effective commercial structures, test delivery and commercial models with suppliers take lead responsibility for developing an effective and competitive supply market to fulfil the client's requirements;
* Build a team of commercial experts, then manage the team to support delivery of a series of complex procurement exercises from the first articulation of requirements to delivery of contracts and onwards into business as usual service provision

Experience/Skills Required for the Head of Commercial/Commercial Director/Head of Commercial Strategy:
* Extremely broad and deep commercial knowledge with a high degree of market or sector awareness
* Demonstrable experience of improving commercial positions through effective contract relationships with suppliers and internal customers.

* Significant experience leading in at least ONE (but preferably several) of the following areas:
- Supplier Performance Management
- Account management/Business Partnering in a commercial environment
- Contract management, negotiation and conflict resolution
- Procurement across multiple categories at a senior level.
- Large Complex Commercial Transactions in either IT, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) or Facilities Management (FM)

* Strong leadership in a complex environment with an ability to demonstrate excellent business judgement and a proven ability to drive change within an organisation
* Significant experience of delivering multiple high value contracts in complex procurement project environments.
* An excellent understanding of the governments commercial agenda, controls processes, best practice and commercial constraint
* Managing a portfolio of multifaceted commercial projects and commercial transactions
* Developing effective commercial structures, test delivery and commercial models with suppliers and articulate requirements
