THE ROLE:

We're looking for an industrial designer who is excited about designing and deploying new Internet of Things infrastructure into cities as part of our state of the art Cities Lab. Creating prototypes and pilots will help to learn how to improve urban living as well as communicating and testing new concepts.

You will be designing, making and deploying urban pilots that make use of Internet of Things technology.

You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team with user-experience designers, service designers, insight specialists and data scientists.

Your work will inspire and support the full spectrum of Future Cities Catapult stakeholders, visitors and collaborators.

- You will develop and maintain design mock-ups, usage scenarios, prototypes, specifications, navigation maps and other design documents.
- You will work with user researchers and designers to translate city needs into the best product/service solutions for our businesses.
- You will assist British companies develop more compelling and desirable products and services.

WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

- You will have a formal education in Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, Architecture, or related field.
- You know how to distil complex situations, needs and requirements into clear design principles so that we can create compelling user experiences.
- You have excellent presentation skills and are able to explain ideas through static, digital interactive and/or physical representations.
- You are expert at using the most appropriate media at hand, be it physical, print, or digital to communicate and test an idea
- You excel at understanding and designing the interplay of physical objects, digital and analog interfaces, information, and the built environment.
- Have strong competency with relevant design & communication tools:Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp, AfterEffects & Microsoft Office
- You will be familiarity with media coding, including:

HTML, HTML 5, CSS, XML, and ActionScript and programming micro controllers such as Arduno and the Raspberry PI, etc
