Hadoop Developer - Java - Big Data - Sydney CBD - 4-6m Contract

The Company
Our client is a market leading financial services organization that is one of the best known and highly regarded finance companies in Australia. They are renowned for their strong service to the Australian public for all of our finance needs. They have a very large and complex environment which allows the use of some very interesting and complex technology solutions including some flagship technology installations that are globally leading. Due to growth of their increasingly complex technical environment and the value of big data professions in other industries they've decided to form a new team to overhaul the organization's analytics platform.

The Team
You will join a newly formed team of developers, architects, and data science professionals in charge of designing and building out the organization's analytics platforms. The team is relatively autonomous, comprised of proactive, hand-on individuals, and work fast to deliver cutting-edge solutions to business needs.

The Role
You will be an experienced developer that is comfortable working with the relevant technologies (Hadoop, NOSQL, MapReduce, etc). In this role, you will be developing and proposing solutions in order to build out the organization's analytical functions across the risk management, portfolio optimization, security/fraud, and marketing areas of the business.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE:

- Strong programming skills in Java (preferred), Ruby, Python, C++, or Scala
- Experience working with Hadoop and MapReduce
- Experience working in Linux environments
- Experience with MongoDB, Cassandra, or other NoSQL environments (desirable)
- Excellent communication skills; the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts
- Advanced degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics, or related area - strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, probability theory, and stochastic processes (desirable)
