GEOSPATIAL OFFICER

6 MONTH CONTRACT

Rate: Open to talks

My client is a major transport services organisation in Manchester. They are seeking a Geospatial officer on initially a 6 month contract.

KEY ROLE OUTPUTS:

1) Agreements on data licences and processes
2) Operated licences for GIS datasets
3) Register of GIS datasets
4) Identified and developed 'fit for purpose' GIS applications and analysis tools
5) Disseminated intelligence on geographical patterns
6) Identified opportunities for more effective use of GIS
7) Prioritised use of GIS resources

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:

- Experience of managing data licences and sub-licences, including from Ordnance Survey (eg PSMA and NCAWC)
- Significant experience in the practical application of mapping software and management of geo-referenced data
- Experience of developing, managing and manipulating GIS datasets
- Experience in successfully planning and managing projects and of prioritising workload
- Proficient in the use of computer software, including databases and Excel
- Experience of the GIS package MapInfo
- Programming skills
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations for a variety of audiences
- Effective communication with clients/users of analytical findings

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

- Development and application of GIS-based tools and methodologies for strategy analysis and detailed planning
- MapBasic programming skills
- Experience of accessibility planning research, with knowledge of software such as Accession or Visography TRACC
- Experience of statistical software, eg SPSS
- Experience of geodemographic analysis, including Census and other demographic datasets such as ACORN
- Experience of supporting users through ad-hoc and/or formal training
- Web mapping experience, eg MapXtreme, WMS & OpenLayers, or Google Maps API

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - TECHNICAL, VOCATIONAL OR EDUCATIONAL:

- Degree, masters-level or equivalent in Transport Planning, Geographical Information Systems or Computer Science
- Membership of relevant professional body, eg Association for Geographic Information
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development, eg Chartered Geographer (GIS) status
