Outsource UK Ltd are actively seeking to recruit for a contract role on behalf of a client.

The Client:World leader in defence markets

The Job:

Part of a team of engineers undertaking tasks contributing to the design of the Platform Management System, Power and Propulsion design solutions. This work is to determine the baseline design for Main Gate submission, and then develop those solutions for Stage 2 Design.

Key Technical Skills

A wide knowledge of PMS design, and Naval Ship design experience, to execute thetasks required to support an informed down-selection process and to determine the baseline solution that will be taken forward into Stage 1 Design.
A knowledge of marine propulsion elements, networking protocols and interfacing, preferably with an understanding of the shortfalls in the way it has been managed on recent naval contracts

Key Leadership/People Mgmt Skills

Required to negotiate technical issues with both the Customer and potential suppliers. Manage and develop a more junior member of the PMS team.

Key Interpersonal/Behavioural Skills

Part of a small team which will have a high level of interaction, both within the team, and with the MoD customer, to develop a sound technical solution, within a tight budget.
Good communication and influencing skills will be required to discharge the role effectively. A good motivator and coach.

Key Mental/Analytical Skills and Challenges

Conduct Cost Capability Trade-Offs in support of the down-selection process. There will be a particular focus on providing design solutions which minimise Through Life Costs whilst remaining within the target UPC. The project will be adopting cutting edge technologies - eg System Architect - and an understanding and capture of the risks associated with these will be required.

Company/Industry Knowledge

Five years (minimum) PMS Systems design experience on naval ships.

Qualifications:

BEng Mechanical/Marine Engineering (preferred), or HNC/HND with appropriate experience in lieu.

1. Support development of the PMS subcontract
2. Development of the power and propulsion system Designs
3. Carry out design tasks to determine the optimum propulsion philosophy, with due regard for implications on ship's complement, and development of the resultant interfaces with PMS system architecture.
4. Provide specialist technical input to key areas of the design to ensure the suitability of solutions adopted
