Deputy Security Controller - Mountbatten House, Basingstoke

The Security Department for these sites will provide a shared working environment within the confines of both sites. It will provide security services, in compliance with Thales, Government and Third Party security requirements, to all businesses located on those sites.

Primary Purpose of the Job
To provide an efficient and effective security service to all Thales businesses represented on the Thales sites in Basingstoke and Reading.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
Deputise for the Security Controller during absence across the range of duties

Ensure the efficient conduct, co-ordination and execution of all security activities in the department.

Become familiar with latest HMG and Thales security requirements and implement as appropriate

Process documentation and maintain accurate manual and computerised security records of all staff including contract and temporary staff in compliance with National Security Vetting requirements contained in the HMG Security Policy Framework

Process documentation and maintain accurate manual and computerised security records of all visits by Thales and contracted staff to HMG and related establishments together with defence organisations both in the UK and overseas in compliance with UK and International visit requirements contained in the HMG Security Policy Framework

Act as Crypto Custodian or Alternate as appropriate

Process documentation and maintain accurate manual and computerised security records of all matters pertaining to security aspects of bids, tenders and contracts ensuring compliance with specific requirements.

Process documentation and maintain accurate manual and computerised security records of all movements and transmissions of protectively marked material in, out and within Thales in compliance with HMG, Thales and Third Party requirements.

Liaise with customer security organisations to ensure the correct and secure conduct of all contracts.

Liaison with sub-contractor security organisations to ensure the correct and secure conduct of all contracts.

Interface with Thales Human Resource Departments, MOD Defence Vetting Agency and other appropriate agencies and organisations with regard to vetting and screening requirements for Company employees and contractors.

Assist as required in any other security roles as may be required from time to time by the Security Controller.

Required experience/qualifications
Proven experience working in a UK defence security environment

Knowledge of and ability to interpret HMG and Thales security requirements together with international security agreements in relation to business needs

Broad understanding of security requirements for IT systems on defence programmes

Knowledge and broad understanding of ISO27001 security requirements - Information Security

Proven experience in managing people and disciplines in a busy security environment.

Knowledge and broad understanding of Data Protection requirements in relation to Personal and Sensitive Personal Data

Recognised qualification in Risk and Security Management or equivalent experience advantageous

HMG security briefings through MOD DE&S ISS

Defence Industry training through Defence Industry Security Association (DISA)

Crypto Custodian training through MOD

Level of secondary or tertiary education to A Level standard or equivalent experience

Additional Information
Candidate will be required to undergo and achieve No Limitations security clearance to SC (Security Check) level via the MOD Defence Vetting Agency. More in-depth vetting to DV (Developed Vetting) may be a requirement for certain projects.
The post holder is bound by the conditions and requirements of the Official Secrets Acts 1911-1989 and is required to deal with both government and Company sensitive matters.
The post holder is expected to become a member of the Defence Industry Security Association (DISA), a professional body that represents the interests and views of defence industry security to government
