Job Description:
Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking a Database Analyst to work closely on-site in either Charlotte or San Francisco.

Duties include:

- Participates in the planning, analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of the organization's databases.
- Under general guidance and/or utilizing existing tools and templates, performs moderately complex server-class database activities including one or more of the following: troubleshooting, maintenance and production support; performance monitoring and tuning Assists with logical/physical database design and creation; data modelling and/or mapping; programming and coding to automate and/or support the database environment.
- Configures and tests for database installations and migrations; back-up and recovery activities; and assists with gathering business requirements and database metrics for further analysis.
- May participate in projects as a coordinator or in a support capacity.
- Works with senior DBAs on database projects that require collaboration across various infrastructure teams and to integrate best practices and efficiencies into production environments.
- Analyzes and identifies database performance issues and bottlenecks, serves as escalation point for problem resolution, and drives recovery through root cause investigation.

Required Skills:

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems and 2 to 4 years of work experience as a Microsoft SQL, Oracle, or Sybase Database Administrator partnering with development teams and customers to provide database administration and project support, design configurations and solutions that focus on high performance and high availability.
- Ability to work with a strong sense of urgency and clearly communicate both verbally and written for highly time sensitive deliverables in a dynamic trading environment driven by financial markets.
- Ability to setup, configure, and troubleshoot database replication and mirroring.
- Production change management experience is a must.
- Should have a strong desire to learn about the latest capabilities and features of Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle 11g, or Sybase 15 that will allow them to further their career as a Database Administrator.

Preferred Skills:

- Knowledge of database design and implementation of high availability and recovery models; including setup, configuration, and monitoring of database recovery strategies such as failover, clustering, and replication methods.
- Previous use or knowledge of 3rd party tools such as Quest, Litespeed, WhiteSands ProactiveDBA, and Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager.
- Experience with DBMS platform upgrades and migrations from Sybase to either Oracle or Microsoft SQL server.
- Experience in supporting Securities Investment Group trading environment.
