Database Administrator

Our client is a hugely popular online retailer seeking a Database Administrator to design, build, improve, and maintain database solutions that will provide critical support for the operational responsibilities of the Vendor Relationship Management dept. This is a fast-moving business unit, and the person in this position will be consistently challenged to provide services and deliverables that support the pace.

The Database Administrator will be responsible for daily operational tasks as well as creating and driving solutions to improve performance, automation and data management, including documenting, improving and creating tools or processes that recognize and address customer needs. This candidate will need to be able to work independently and adopt a proactive approach to database problem-solving and support. The Database Administrator will be required to coordinate efforts cross-functional teams, and communicate with internal and external parties in order to satisfy customer requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Create databases to support VRM requirements.
- Test, validate and implement performance and resource optimization improvements in consultation with development and remote DBA teams.
- Maintain development and production environments.
- Work on multiple development projects spanning many teams.
- Own operational stability for all VRM databases, including data management and security.
- Work closely with the team to create solutions that support business needs.
- Translate logical data model to physical data model.
- Write Scripting to automate operational tasks.
- Backup and recovery (RMAN and traditional).
- Root cause analysis of production-related database issues.
- Research, test and lead in the adoption of new technologies and approaches that improve database performance, stability and resource utilization.
- Create, improve and document tools or processes that recognize and address customers' cost management needs.

REQUIREMENTS

- Minimum 3 years' experience with SQL, including UNIX Shell Scripting, PLSQL, Oracle
- Solid troubleshooting and resolution skills
- Strong query and database/application tuning skills
- Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects and tasks with shifting priorities
- Experience in designing and optimizing databases for scalability and performance
- BS in Computer Science or related field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners to overcome obstacles and deliver results
- Ability to generate high-quality work product in a collaborative, creative, sometimes ambiguous environment
- Initiative, common sense, good judgment, and a sense of humor

PREFERRED

- Experience designing, building and maintaining Datawarehouse utilized by wide range of people and groups for varied purposes
- Experience with BI-analytics
- Experience with workflow management tools (eg, Appian)
