Data Centre Consolidation Project Manager

The Senior Project Manager role is in Core Network & Operations Delivery team to support the Data Centre Strategy & Engineering group.

This group provides European IT Infrastructure Operations and has just started to upgrade its standard application portfolio, which requires an uplift of the underpinning Infrastructure, Platforms and Application Environments. It operates its services from multiple data centres across Europe with its main hubs in Amsterdam and Vienna.

A new DC Strategy is being developed in order to meet future demands, increase capacity, improve efficiency, drive standardization and lower Total Cost of Ownership.

The DC Consolidation track includes typical activities such as Assessment with Site Survey, Application Modelling, Design migration strategy, Design Runbooks, Virtualisation (ie P2V, V2V etc), Lift & Shifts, Business Alignment, OS Upgrades, Decommissioning and DC Clean Up.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Senior Project Manager DC Consolidation is responsible for demand and delivery management across the end to end delivery of large and complex projects in their respective domain, from approval through design, development, integration, test, deployment and into operations in countries.

The Senior Project Manager focusses on the delivery of multiple releases in the domain allowing the various teams involved to focus on their deliveries and balance with their ongoing activities

Provide leadership in their domain through formal governance roles, eg on steering committees, and by building and maintaining trusted relationships with product and technology leaders in their domain and its country entities

Support the VP DC Strategy Engineering, Directors and management team as needed.

Direct, manage and motivate a team of highly educated, skilled & knowledgeable Project, Managers and the members of the delivery teams like technical experts, product owners etc.

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that new and existing services in the IT Infrastructure domain are developed, launched, and maintained in accordance with the IT Infrastructure & Operations standards. Typical activities in scope are:

REQUIREMENTS

- Proven track record in Data Centre consolidation and/or DC build activities last 5 years
- It is likely that successful candidates for this role will have 10+ years of experience in delivery of technical services in the IT Infrastructure in the telecommunications, cable, and/or media industries
- Proven track record in Data Centre IT Infrastructure Services, Platform Services as well as Application Infrastructure Services.
- Delivery Management skills.
- Comprehensive and strong skills in project management, preferably with certification from eg APM, PMI, IPMA
- A deep understanding and first-hand experience of traditional waterfall and agile project management methodologies used in the industry eg PRINCE2, Scrum
- Profound expertise in project management tool Clarity (CA)
- Domain skills. This role requires several year's experience of working on products and programs in the specific domain. Knowledge of the operating models, technical architectures, and solution components used in the major markets of the Telco/media/cable industry globally is required
- Being able to develop a clear and detailed plan. In order to ensure that a program is feasible and doesn't veer off course, the project manager will need to have the skills to develop a step by step plan with well-defined tasks and to make sure the delivery team stays on a timeline
- Effective written and verbal communication skills are needed, as well as experience in communicating, persuading, and influencing at senior stakeholder level
