As a Data Center Technician you are a member of a team responsible for the operation of industry leading, geographically diverse, large scale, and critical facilities. Each team member is a highly motivated individual with demonstrated, analytical expertise in the areas of complex, mission critical facilities.

This role, specifically for decommissioning server hardware ensures the server racks that are no longer useful to the service owners are properly sanitized and liquidated.

THE DECOMMISSIONS TECH WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

- Moving/lifting packages usually no greater than 75 lbs.
- Unpacking/repacking fragile electronics
- Relocating and moving of large enterprise equipment
- Creating/attaching labels and barcodes
- Troubleshooting of basic Linux functions and network connectivity
- Updating progress through a web ticketing system
- Handing off tickets to software development engineers
- Reporting of processes to software development teams
- Documenting procedures
- Escalating to senior technicians and management
- Decommissioning and processing of Legacy hardware out of the data center facilities

JOB PROJECTS:

- Coordinate with the associated service owners, project managers, and capacity analysts to remove server racks that are no longer able to perform to current requirements.
- Follow Liquidation Guides to remove and sanitize the rack of all customer data. This includes the process of wiping the Switches, powering down of the rack, and removal and disposing of the Hard drives or Solid State drives installed in the rack.
- The technician is also responsible for coordinating with teams to remove the liquidated racks offsite.
- The technician must record the processing through the entire sanitization a process through a ticketing system.
- The process will be recorded and managed through directed workflow systems and techs are expected to follow the process closely

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

- Familiarity with basic PC components/hardware: HDD/SSD/Flash, USB/FireWire/eSATA
- Experience with a ticketing system a plus
- Strong self-motivation and dependability required
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail, maintain high quality standards
- Relocation of large enterprise equipment may be required
- Data Centers are 24x7 environments: must be willing to work rotating shifts (day/night) as well as weekends
- Must wear a pager for communication, information, emergency, and on-call situations
- Must possess a valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and pass a driving record check to operate company vehicles
- Employment contingent on passing background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following hardware platforms (eg Dell, HP) a plus:
- HP, Dell, ZT, Foxconn, Super Micro, SGI, etc.
- Previous experience working in a Data Center environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management)
- Previous experience migrating and decommissioning of data center assets plus
- Associate's degree in IT-related field plus two years of progressively responsible experience preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DATA CENTER OPERATIONS

- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- May require working in cramped spaces or elevated locations
- Walk jobsites in uneven terrain
- Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- Carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds for short distances
- Work shifts longer than eight hours in duration
- Respond to off hour emergency calls
- Coordinate body movements when using tools or equipment
- Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance
- Occasional bending or twisting of the body
- Perform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tired
- Use hands to manipulate small wires and objects
- Apply muscular force quickly to objects and equipment
- Push or pull heavy objects into position
- Work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions
- Occasional work in tight and/or narrow spaces, such as under raised floors
