CREDIT SPECIALIST

OVERALL FUNCTION SUMMARY

The Credit department is responsible for providing consultative leadership in establishing and maintaining strong internal controls over the credit and collection processes; assuring integrity of the credit and collection data bases and publication of collection reports.
Collections functions of premium dues from terminated purchasers.

CREDIT RISK MONITORING AND COLLECTION PROCESSES, INCLUDING DELINQUENCY MANAGEMENT, INTERNAL COLLECTIONS AND OUTSIDE COLLECTION AGENCY RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT.

MANAGE THE QUALITY AND TIMELINESS OF CREDIT AND COLLECTION PROCESSES TO GAIN VALUABLE INSIGHT INTO THE GROUP CREDIT RISKS IN THE GROUP DUES RECEIVABLE PORTFOLIOS.

PROVIDE COLLECTION STATUS AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO REGIONAL COLLECTION MANAGER.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage monthly portfolio of unpaid premium dues from terminated groups to prevent further delinquency by collecting balances in full or negotiating short term payment plans
Utilization of Outside Collection Agencies (OCAs) and outside counsel.
Creation and monitoring of payment plans.
Understanding and interpreting Credit Bureau reports
Provide collection status and recommendations to California Manager of Collections.
The Collection Specialist of the California Collections Department is responsible for effectively following the California Collection Processes after responsibility for the purchaser is transferred from the regional CSC.
Contributes to the development of the department's objectives.
Erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally result in the inability to reach functional objectives and negatively affects expenditures and resources.
Involves interpreting and analysing established concepts and trends.
Exercises considerable judgment to make decisions for less defined and complex issues.
Requires complex decision-making.
Able to identify potential problems without supervision, and develop and present solutions to management.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and solve problems independently without detailed supervision.

FLEXIBILITY TO PERFORM A VARIETY OF DETAILED CREDIT AND COLLECTION FUNCTIONS AND MEET ESTABLISHED DEADLINES.

Able to piece together complex data from multiple sources, and determine if the data is adequate to meet Recovery reporting requirements for review by Senior Management.
Skilled in developing consensus and able to promote concepts with other decision-makers.
Operates under minimal supervision.

REQUIRMENTS
5 - 10 years related experience
Excellent spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word), and database skills required.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills required.
Understanding of systems development life cycle, change control, quality assurance and database concepts
Extensive Healthcare Insurance industry experience highly desirable
4-year degree in related field
