Title: Communications Manager
Reports to: Head of Government Affairs & Communications

One of the world's leading research-based pharmaceutical companies. In the UK, employs more than 500 people and medicines developed by  them treat around 1.5 million patients every year.

The company is committed to delivering great medicines and has introduced a range of innovative treatments that can make an important difference to the lives of patients with serious health conditions such as schizophrenia, epilepsy, multiple myeloma and HIV/AIDS. Other key areas of activity include pain management, gastroenterology, fungal infections, women's health, neurology and anaemia.

There is a vacancy for a Communications Manager has been created, working in the External Affairs Team and reporting to the Head of Government Affairs and Communications.

This position is based in the High Wycombe office.

ROLE PURPOSE
This new influential position is responsible for developing and implementing communications strategies within the business units. Working closely with the Head of Government Affairs and Communications, you will develop and leverage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the business, including trade and print media. You will advise on corporate communications strategies for the business for new and existing medical products from a brand and communications position. You will also advise senior executives in the business on corporate communications activities that affect the medicines produced, both in the pipeline and on the market.

This exciting role offers an opportunity for communications professional with good brand or corporate communications experience to move into a global organisation where full training and investment will be provided, and you will become part of the corporate communications team.

KEY ROLE ACTIVITIES
Communications

- Developing and delivering communications strategies with the business unit, by working closely with senior executives in business units in the UK
- Working closely with the business units to develop branding strategies for new and existing products
- Identify, evaluate and monitor the impact of corporate communications strategies in the business
- Develop media relations campaigns on behalf of print, trade and broadcast press
- Take an active role in representing the organisation to a range of appropriate stakeholder groups.
- Become an expert on a range of products within the business
- Expertise in core healthcare communications disciplines, and a high level of understanding of the ABPI Code of Practice and Health Care Compliance
- Lead on integrating public affairs and policy activities into the branding and communications for designated medicines
- Develop external and internal communications strategies and metrics to ensure they support the brand and that approved key differentiators and messages are in place for launches and throughout the product's life
- Ability to translate complex scientific data and medical language into communications materials

Corporate Communications

- Support the broader External Relations team, including advising on internal communications, media activities and digital programmes where necessary
- Leading on the UK internal communication strategy and managing the implementation of the strategy
- Advising the Management Committee and senior management on internal communications, coordinating across EMEA and global and the communications functions

KEY LINE MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES (WHEN REQUIRED)

Although this role will not be responsible for line management, the appointed candidate should coach/mentor junior members of the team

SKILLS REQUIRED
Candidates should ideally have

- Excellent understanding or ability to understand the impact of communications in a highly commercial environment.
