Commercial Manager (Smart Meter Asset)

Our utility client based on the south coast are looking for a Commercial Manager.

You will be responsible for the procurement and management of complex, long term and strategic contracts and the provision of a procurement service for internal customers that meets operational deadlines, upholds the commercial interests and ensures value for money and is compliant with legislation. You will liaise with internal customers, Metering, IT, Legal, Retail, Regulation and other functions as necessary to ensure that all commercial, business, legal and regulatory requirements are covered.

Your responsibilities will extend to ensuring contractual terms minimise legal and commercial risks and ensure a fair allocation of risk. You will advise internal customers on matters related to engagement with third parties and work with the programme and Back Office functions to maximise cost reduction benefits while maintaining or improving customer service and quality.

Maintaining effective supplier relationships, you will ensure that they consistently meet or exceed business expectations, including regular reports on supplier performance. You will ensure the successful progression of contracts through the governance process and you will assist and contribute to the delivery of the Supplier Relationship process.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU SHOULD BE COMPETENT IN EITHER METERING, HARDWARE, METER ASSET PROVISION, SYSTEMS INTEGRATION OR CONSULTANCY. You should have good experience of Supplier Relationship Management and Supplier Development and Communication and Stakeholder Management. You should have excellent negation and decision making skills and have excellent commercial awareness.

You should have excellent knowledge and experience of procuring complex contracts and managing contracts with complex supply chains involving at least 3 parties. You should have a good working knowledge of P2P procurement related systems and a good knowledge of contracts and contract management post award including supplier vetting, development and management.

Demonstrating a clear understanding of competitive processes, you should be able to understand business needs and be able to put them in overall context. You should have a good knowledge of UK Procurement Legislation and all relevant statutory and legal constraints. A MCIPs qualification or similar would be advantageous.

You should have substantial experience in commercial or procurement management and have strong commercial acumen with well developed problem solving skills. You should have excellent communication and presentation skills and have a detailed working knowledge of relevant conditions of contract with the ability to draft special contractual terms and conditions. You should be highly numerate and be confident to challenge the norm and think creatively.
