Category Manager

My local authority client is looking for a Category Manager to work within Finance and Performance, with extensive procurement experience and expertise, having operated at a strategic level, with a strong track record of success in delivering financial savings. The Category Manager should have experience of managing a cross functional project team and/or function. Experience in using modern ERP systems is essential. The Category Manager should have experience in E-procurement tools and techniques, including when, where and how to apply in a pragmatic and engaged way. Proven track record of influencing other professionals and technical staff. Previous experience of sourcing tools and techniques. Previous experience of conducting basic business process re-engineering. Proven track record of working in a environment where customer needs are variable & the ability to assess opportunities at speed is crucial. Experience of implementing relatively complex supply chain solutions/using these to drive out value from an end user perspective or from a consulting perspective. Detailed knowledge of procurement legislation, bid tendering, contract management and supplier management. Strong working knowledge of Public Sector processes. Ability to analyse both financial and non financial information, understand the business context and extract key facts to deliver improvement and opportunities.

Advanced negotiation skills. Knowledge of EU Procurement Law. High level project management skills. Good understanding of equality and inclusions principles and regulations relating to public sector procurement. Demonstrable communication/facilitation/project management/implementation skills in an antagonistic environment. Innovator - Able to shape new ideas that deliver business value and drive these through to implementation. Problem Solver - ability to identify and resolve issues with speed. Personable - able to build trusting relationships fast. Business results focused - focused on delivering value that will directly. lead to achievement of business results defined in the business strategy.

Any public sector construction experience would be a huge advantage.
