Business Rates Officer - Customer Service

A member of a team that administers the billing and collection and enforcement of all National Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR)/Council Tax properties.

To deal directly with customers of the service over the telephone and ensure delivery against the service purpose.

To provide help and assistance to customer queries over the telephone and via written correspondence. Inputting a range of computer data including customer's direct debits, personal and financial details. Advice and guidance will need to be sought to deal with the more complex enquires only.

To assist with the daily maintenance of NNDR/Council Tax including granting discounts/exemptions and reliefs, the issue of reminders, tracing of absconded debtors etc.

Meet the standards or deadlines required

To identify irrecoverable NNDR/Council Tax and submit documented recommendations for write off.

To deal with enquiries arising from the issue of reminders, final notices and summonses in accordance with agreed guidelines. Monitor arrangements dealing with the Bailiff.

Inputting a range of computer data including customer's direct debits, personal and financial details as well as other details including payment arrangement.

To grant and review reliefs, discounts and exemptions where appropriate in accordance with legislation.

To liaise where necessary with other service such as Benefits and Customer Services and other sections and of the Council and external sources to provide a responsive, courteous and timely service to customers

Assist with the maintenance of the NNDR Rating List/Council Valuation List by reporting changes to the Valuation Office.
