ROLE - Business Analyst

DURATION - 6 months

LOCATION - London

JOB PURPOSE

Support Business Manager in:

- Delivering mandatory Legal function reporting requirements
- Managing the effectiveness and control of the Legal infrastructure including cost management, internal governance and legal tools and technology.
- Delivering initiatives for business unit Head of Legal and General Counsel

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

GOVERNANCE AND REPORTING:

- Prepare and distribute regular reports required by the Legal Leadership teams, Group Centre Legal Operations and Legal Chief Administrative Office on a timely and accurate basis, including functional control indicators, scorecards, business reviews and legal risk reports.
- Manage relationships with Finance and Risk business partners, the legal Leadership Team and Group Centre Legal Operations to collate and cleanse data and ensure that agreed remedial actions are followed through to safeguard accuracy of reporting.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:

- Team: Lead on the management of the teams cost centre. Responsible for setting and controlling the legal budget and reporting as required.
- Business Unit Legal Team: Manage the reporting of internal and external cost and control MI for the Legal Function. Analyse and report on functional costs identifying risks and opportunities.
- Responsible for controlling and reporting against the regional ETA.  

RISK & CONTROL MANAGEMENT

- Team: Lead on maintenance of operational controls on behalf of team ensuring compliance with policy and procedures for information records management, purchasing and business continuity management.
- Business Unit Legal Team: Responsible for administering the legal risk management framework for Legal Function and preparing reports for sign off by the General Counsel.
- Co-ordinating legal key risk returns for the region across all clusters. Supporting remediation activities and driving best practice.

FUNCTIONAL

- Work closely with the Business Manager on Governance & Reporting TOM and other projects which affect the Legal Function.
- Work closely with Group Centre Legal Operations and Legal Chief Administrative Office to deliver and embed change and risk initiatives.
- Act as a main reference point for colleagues in business region and the Legal Function. Resolve queries promptly where possible otherwise channelling to appropriate area and following up where appropriate, including escalating issues to the Business Manager.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure an extensive network of contacts.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

- Continue to review and improve methodology for data collation & reporting
- Support Business Manager with development of format of reports/presentations/planning documents as appropriate.
- Contribute to submission/correspondence/presentations for business unit and functional committees.  

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL

- Excellent MI and Reporting skills
- Excellent communication skills - oral and written
- Very strong planning, prioritising, organisation and interpersonal skills
- Strong numeracy skills
- Demonstrates a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach
- Able to break down large pieces of work into sub-tasks
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong Excel, Word, Database and PowerPoint skills
- Good understanding and practical experience of MI tools, systems and capabilities
- Has the aptitude to develop and learn new technical skills
- Self starter - able to work autonomously and within a team

PREFERRED

- Good understanding of MI source systems within a banking/legal environment
- Understanding of legal and/or regulatory compliance or other risk reporting issues desirable
- Knowledge of the activities of a legal department/function
- Familiar with Financial Services institutions
- Finance/accounts experience would be an advantage
