Harvey Nash's Public Sector client requires a Building Standards Officer, and Senior Building Standards Officer to join their Aberdeen based team on initial 3 month contracts. Both officers will work under the Building Standards Manager, determining all types of Building Standards applications, working with and training other Council services, external bodies, community organisations and the general public.

Main Duties will include:

. Inspecting and reporting on sites, developments and buildings
. Checking that work complies with planning permission, conditions and plans
. Taking part in the services emergency arrangements for dealing with dangerous buildings
. Assisting with work relating to the various Licensing bodies
. Advising and promoting access issues in relation to buildings, in the interests of people with disabilities

Essential Skills:

. Knowledge and experience of building standards and building construction techniques
. Excellent knowledge of the overall building industry
. Degree educated in relevant subject
. Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (or equivalent)
. Good understanding of the Building Standards Legislation, procedures, government advice and best practice
. Strong skills in analysing complex information
. Excellent communication and negotiation skills
. Good knowledge of PC systems and programmes
. Experience preparing cogent reports
. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
. Experience interpreting plans submitted as part of building application process

The senior post-holder will also be responsible for providing day to day supervision and advice to staff, and deputising for and supporting the Team Leader and Building Standards Manager when necessary. You will also attend and advise Council Committees, and contribute to the implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 across the council.

The ideal candidate will also have completed Online training courses in the following: Data Protection; Child Protection; and ICT 'For Your Eyes Only'.
