Projektbeschreibung

Performs duties to support the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the Genomic Medicine Institute (GMI) and the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to perform innovative research, provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction. This is a specialty position that integrates genomic science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge. The candidate will work closely with physicians, researchers, and leaders throughout the organization to identify opportunities and plans to leverage IT as a strategic asset for providers, researchers and physicians involved in the realization of genomic medicine at Geisinger. This is accomplished through the use of the tools of clinical research informatics (the use of informatics in the discovery and management of new knowledge relating to health and disease) with a specific focus in genetics, genomics and family history.

Receives general supervision from Director, Genomic Medicine Institute.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- 1. Contributes to and/or leads GMI and institutional initiatives with regard to the integration of genomic and clinical data
- 2. Provides the GMI with both short- and long-term information systems strategies that will help the GMI meet its objectives.
- 3. Develops and maintains applications that contribute to the discovery, collection, integration, storage, and retrieval of complex data sets in support of clinical and translational research programs
- 4. Develops novel informatics tools and utilizes emerging web technologies including the use of semantic web technologies in biomedical application domains.
- 5. Provides web-based bioinformatics and access to public and proprietary relational databases.
- 6. Develops and applies computational tools for the application of network analysis, hypothesis discovery, and data mining methods to heterogeneous biomedical data sets. .
- 7. Uses natural language processing and text mining tools to extract biological knowledge from domain literature
- 8. Uses tools that promote the visualization of multi-dimensional data sets.
- 9. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals and implementation plans to meet objectives.
- 10. Works on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
- 11. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- 12. Identifies data relevant to the projects of the GMI.
- 13. Coordinates the collection and recording of data relevant to the projects of the GMI.
- 14. Participate as a content expert to evaluate information and assist others in developing informatics strategies to support clinical translational research
- 15. Participate as a content expert for the IT issues involving genetics, genomics and family health history within the Geisinger Health System.
- 16. Recommends system enhancements to support projects. Participates in development of upgrade specifications. Supports testing of application upgrades.
- 17. Communicates the progress of the project to relevant management and staff.
- 18. Recommends system enhancements to provide continuing efficiencies to the end user.
- 19. Assists with the development, identification and measurement of the project outcomes.
- 20. Communicates effectively with other team members, end users, outside vendors, and supervisor.
- 21. Abides by all Geisinger Health System security policies.
- 22. Performs other duties as assigned.
