Automotive Project Buyer

Role Purpose:
To procure (mainly) bespoke items to cost, quality and delivery specifications as defined by both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities:
* To assist internal/external customers in the development of project sourcing strategies
* To regularly monitor relevant EDIS releases, SAP requisitions and Visual Manufacturing Dispatch Lists to identify items for procurement.
* To ensure that all items for procurement are within the relevant budget and comply with all appropriate strategies and rules of thumb, and to raise any anomalies with relevant colleagues.
* To monitor and appropriately report cost and delivery performance against the relevant budgets and timing plans.
* To utilise and assist in the development of new purchasing tools such as global sourcing and E-procurement.
* To consistently identify the BVFM source for items, within the vendor base.
* To identify new resourcing opportunities through market research or by other means.
* To liaise with the Purchasing Manager with respect to any potential resourcing opportunities.
* To support expedite deliveries to meet required dates.
* To initiate, develop and maintain good supplier relationships, including arranging face-to-face meetings as appropriate.
* To use SAP to identify expedite needs, and investigate any invoice, cost or quality queries.
* To attend project reviews as required, equipped with all relevant delivery information.
* To carry out any ad-hoc tasks as required by the Purchasing Manager.
* To maintain an awareness of the progress of relevant product markets.
* Ensure that suppliers are working within the Company code of ethics and to the company's terms and conditions.
* To be an effective team member, working with supervisor and colleagues to ensure smooth workflow with maximum output.

Skills and Knowledge and experience:
* Good working knowledge of technical commodities.
* Good working knowledge of SAP, including but not exclusive to:
* Purchasing module.
* Finance modules.
* Reporting functions.
* Finance and reporting modules.
* Good practical knowledge of MS Office tools, including Word and Excel.
* Good understanding of the structure and working practices of counterpart procurement teams within other business units and across the Company group.
* CIPS - not essential but a benefit.
* Global Sourcing.

Education and Training:
* Minimum of 3 years within a commodity buying area within the automotive area - Graduates with a desire to progress.
* A good understanding of engineering issues, through education or experience - not essential but a benefit.
