Automation Developer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Development and Configuration.
- Liquid Handling System (LHS) Development and Configuration.
- Design and development of interfaces between LIMS, LHS, and other internal systems based on VB.NET/ASP.NET/SQL Server and/or Linux/Perl. Other interfacing needs are possible.
- Analyze business requirements to develop solution designs, working with the project team including stakeholders in the business and BT.
- Define/document technical requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain IT solutions and databases that meet requirements using LIMS or other tools, as required.
- Work with both internal and external IT service providers to deliver solutions/projects
- Manage the communication of requirements, expectations and priorities between time zones and teams in a manner which optimizes resource usage and minimizes turnaround times.
- Contribute to the design of Genetics product delivery processes, especially aspects related to information technology.
- Ensure that requirements are addressed in the solution and that the solution is tested adequately.
- Create and maintain system development life cycle documentation.
- Participate in and/or drive problem investigation and resolution.
- Consult with and advise project team leadership and decision makers to identify, recommend, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Strong software development skills.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into solutions that map to technology capabilities.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively on cross-functional project teams or individually, as needed.
- Ability to take direction and to complete tasks with minimal direction
- Ability and desire to learn technologies, some of which are unique to the laboratory domain, such as LHS programming languages and LabWare LIMS (including LIMS Basic)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Laboratory Information Managerment Systems (LIMS)
- VB.NET
- Strong database skills including fluency in SQL.
- Strong skills in building interfaces between systems and/or electronic equipment.
- Bachelor's degree, ideally in Information Systems or Computer Science
- Relevant IT experience, ideally with Laboratory, Life Sciences, and/or Customer Service applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms.
- Relevant experience in development of software design/specifications/technical requirements documentation.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures, especially around liquid pipetting.
- SQL Server

- Excel, MS Word, Visio, and other documentation tools
- Background in laboratory computing environment, including instrument interfacing
- Genetics and/or bioinformatics
- Ability to work with large data sets

- Ability and desire to provide system support after production rollout
