This is an exciting opportunity for an Associate Director Drug Safety and Public Health on a 13 month contract with a global pharmaceutical company based in Cambridgeshire. This individual will be working under consultative direction towards long-range goals and objectives, acting as project lead, participating in budget planning and management, as well as mentoring junior staff in pharmacovigilance skills and knowledge. Essential duties and job functions will be:

*Works under consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives; assignments are self-initiated with almost no direct supervision. Acts as project lead
*May recruit, hire, mentor, and manage direct reports, with responsibility for employee performance evaluations; mentors junior staff to ensure competence in pharmacovigilance skills and knowledge; translates overall direction and strategy, communicates across organizational levels and functions; interprets and executes policies and procedures, and provides direction based on general policies and management guidance
*Participates in both internal and external educational initiatives
*Able to gather information or assign tasks or activities for one or more projects to manage competing priority jobs, and delegates special projects to junior staff if applicable and as needed
*May participate in budget planning and management
*Identifies and pursues global and long-term goals for the group, in collaboration with department head, taking into account and providing support for the strategic goals of the organization
*Demonstrates excellent scientific/clinical or analytical knowledge base, with ability to assess data and understand the safety/medical or process implications
*Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills; has ability to provide direction to a team, and to influence peers and team members appropriately
*Demonstrates excellent attention to detail, teamwork and initiative; maintains confidentiality; maintains meticulous attention to project deadlines
*Develops solutions to a wide range of complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation, ensuring solutions are consistent with organization objectives; develops concepts, techniques, standards, and new applications based on professional principles and theories; viewed as an expert within the organization particularly in the areas of performance metrics, training, affiliate, procedural document, audit and inspection support
*Serves as consultant to DSPH management in area of expertise and acts as a spokesperson for the DSPH organization in matters pertaining to its policies, plans, and long-term goals and objectives
*Able to gather information or assign tasks or activities for one or more projects

*Reviews new regulatory requirements in area of responsibility, makes recommendations based on impact to existing processes and oversees implementation
*Able to plan effectively to receive, deliver, trend or produce reports or data in a timely manner
*Produces and prepares preliminary and final analysis of data or reports in relation to performance measures, training, agreements, audit or inspection activities and other areas under S&C or the wider DSPH area of responsibility
*Works with applicable teams within DSPH or in other functions to implement and maintain activities or tasks under the remit of S able to make recommendations for and implement processes for improvement
*Competent in abilities in area of expertise and the wider areas of DSPH
*Maintains compliance with DSPH and applicable SOPs and work instructions and has a good knowledge of associated SOPs of other groups or departments
*Maintains knowledge of company disease and therapeutic areas
*Has an excellent knowledge and understanding of applicable regulatory requirements
*Has an appropriate level of IT skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
*Able to work as a member of a cross-functional team
*Actively participates in S&C meetings and shares information on projects and challenges openly
*Participates in the development of S&C and DSPH goals
*Recognizes potential or impending problems, implements and delivers solutions
*Acts as a trainer and mentor for more junior S&C or DSPH personnel
*Able to support or act as back up to present hew hire safety training
*Contributes to strategic planning of S&C, SOP creation and updates for DSPH, review and critique audits and data analysis pertaining to their projects or the wider DSPH organization, manages corrective actions and highlights concerns to DSPH management
*Excellent communication skills with individuals at all levels in the organization
*Exercises complete latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments
*Makes and effects decisions that are long-lasting and influence the future course of the DSPH organization. Decisions can affect the financial, employee, or public relations posture of the organization

Candidates must have:
*A medico-scientific university degree
*At least 7 years experience in drug safety or clinical research
*Good communication skills
*Ability to work in cross functional teams
*3+ years line management experience
*3+ years project management experience or experience in managing complex projects
