Assistant Professor, Biological Engineering

The Department of Biosystems Engineering at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Professor in Biological Engineering. The expected start date is August 16, 2014. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities: This is a 9-month tenure track position (60% research, 40% instruction). Research responsibilities include developing and implementing a nationally recognized research program in one or more aspects of biological and bioprocessing engineering (bioprocess engineering for fuels and chemicals, synthetic/systems biology; nano biotechnology; biomaterials and biopolymers; biosensors and bioremediation). The successful candidate will be expected to secure extramural funding from sources such as National Science Foundation, United States Department of Agriculture and National Institute of Health to support his/her research programs and summer salary, publish technical and refereed articles, and collaborate effectively with departmental faculty and colleagues in other disciplines. Instructional responsibilities will include teaching courses such as biochemical reaction engineering; bioprocess design; engineering properties of biomaterials and biopolymers; or thermodynamics for biological systems. The successful candidate will provide academic advising and career counseling for biosystems engineering students; transfer results of the scholarly program through recognized and peer reviewed outlets; and provide leadership to the profession through state and national professional society participation. In addition, departmental, college, and university committee service will be expected. The candidate is expected to provide leadership in Auburn University's strategic initiatives.
