YOUTH OFFENDING SERVICE (YOS) OFFICER

£82.60 - £103.53 PER DAY PAYE

FULL TIME - 35 HOURS PER WEEK BETWEEN 8AM & 9PM

SOUTHEND-ON-SEA

START DATE PREFERABLY 27TH JANUARY 2014

TEMPORARY CONTRACT UNTIL 31ST MARCH 2014

An enhanced CRB is required to be in situ prior to start

You will be required to assess and work with children and young people who have been identified as being offenders, at risk of offending or socially excluded. To ensure interventions are age appropriate and work to effect change in both offending behaviour and self perception whilst meeting the needs of the young person.

- To hold a caseload of young people who have offended or are at risk of offending and complete appropriate assessments and review in line with National Standards
- Work closely with parents ensuring they are involved at all stages of the intervention and offer basic support and guidance as appropriate
- Develop and deliver age appropriate programmes and interventions to reduce the risk of offending, help young people undertake reparation in the community and facilitate change in young people's behaviour and self perception
- To attend Police Station for Triage assessments and provide reports and information for Panels/Court as and when required
- To maintain both paper and computer files
- To work flexibly
- To effect change in young people's behaviour and self perception
- Work out of hours as and when required

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

- Social Work, Health, Youth Work, Education, relevant degree or substantial relevant experience of working with children and young people
- Knowledge of programmes and interventions that can be effective for children and young people and their families
- Knowledge of possible issues affecting young people
- Knowledge of why young people offend
- Youth Justice legislation & Childcare legislation
- Ability to develop programmes and interventions that are age-appropriate and work to effect change in young people's offending behaviour and self perception
- Ability to manage a caseload and supervise young people
- Ability to undertake assessments
