Job Title: Workshop Technician

Location: West Midlands

Job Type: Contract

Workshop Technician required for a leading automotive manufacturer based in the West Midlands. To provide assistance with the production of in-house produced components for the Parts Department, supporting low volume manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities;.
Obtain components from the warehouse ready for workshop assembly.. Assembly of a large variety of low volume mechanical and electrical assemblies. Working from process sheets and drawings. Setup equipment, tooling and fixtures as required.. Programming of electronic control modules.. Operate instrument pack diagnostic equipment to add mileage to instrument packs using both computer based and mechanical systems. Assist with testing rebuild and repair of customers original units.. Operate engraving machine to produce high quality plaques using a computer based system. Including tool setup and replacement.. Stamp replacement VIN plates and chassis floors for Heritage and current vehicles using appropriate jigs and stamps.. Operate key cutting machines to support a fast turnaround of customer replacements. Including setup, cutter changing, inputting codes and key assembly.. Build up lock sets for stock and special order for Heritage and current model variants using the specialist tools, jigs and fixtures provided.. Operate scanning and plotting equipment to assist with the management of archive drawings, including scanning and distribution. Provide other archive material on request from the purchasing team.. Operate Laser etching equipment to create high quality Laser finish sill/build plates. Set up machine and help maintain stocks of all Laser materials.. Support rework projects including current production parts. Liaise with production staff at all levels to ensure correct method of construction.. Liaise with Sales, Heritage and Purchasing departments to assist with the setting up of aftermarket exchange programs.. Supporting ongoing workshop inventory management exercises.. Write and update process sheets to ensure accurate methods of construction are maintained for all Workshop produced parts.. Assist with electrical harness rework and repair.. Assist with special projects to expedite the fast turnaround of parts and assemblies as may be required to fulfil urgent customer orders.. Provide cover for supervisor responsibilities in the Workshop during holiday sickness and absence.. Maintain the workshop and equipment in clean and safe order.

Qualificationscomputer literacy including word, excel and access; driving licence.
