Wintel/Virtualisation Support Consultant - Windows - VM Ware - MCSE 2008 Certified - VCP5 Certified - Manchester - 3 months - Immediate start

My client has an urgent requirement for an Wintel/Virtualisation Support Consultant based in Manchester to work on a 3 month rolling contract.

CANDIDATES APPLYING MUST HOLD AN MCSE 2008 OR ABOVE CERTIFICATION AND A VCP 5 CERTIFICATION. YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE CURRENT HANDS-ON IMPLEMENTATION OR SUPPORT ON WINDOWS AND VM WARE TECHNOLOGIES RATHER THAN PURE ARCHITECTURE BACKGROUNDS.

Infrastructure support candidates typically have:

Degree or equivalent level qualification in an IT related subject;
Experience of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008;
Knowledge of VMware OR Hyper V virtualisation;
Understanding of Firewall technology, data centre switching and its application;
Experience configuring and supporting SAN technologies;
Experience working with backup tools such as Symantec Backup Exec in an Enterprise environment;
Understanding of documentation standards and good presentation skills;
A willingness to work unsociable hours as demanded from time to time by the role, including participation in an on-call rota.

Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibility are:

Engaging in the delivery of support services;
Involvement in the development of new IT solutions, staff training and the maintenance of support documentation;
Diagnosing and resolving or escalating issues with customer solutions
Monitoring, managing and resolving support incidents in conjunction with the central Managed Services Helpdesk;
Involvement in the development of new IT solutions and the maintenance of support documentation;
Maintenance and configuration of Firewalls (Juniper and Cisco);
Providing technical support, consultancy and administration across a range of technologies, principally Microsoft Windows, networking, storage and virtualization;
Hardware and Software installation where necessary;
Deployment and support of VMware ESX and Virtual Centre;
Configuration and support of SAN technologies;
Setup and configuration of backup tools/plans;
Scripting and automation with ability to create minor maintenance scripts
Diagnosing performance problems;
Assisting in the development of new propositions in their area of specialization;
Working closely with implementation consultants, offshore Managed Services consultants and client staff to scope and deliver projects;
