Seeking a Sr Windows Systems Engineer/Architect to document current and future systems needs for a Novell/GroupWise migration to Microsoft Windows Network/Active Directory/Exchange were the infrastructure is outsourced to IBM. You will be responsible for creating the functional specifications and key goals and be the eyes and ears over the 3rd party supplier that will conduct the migration.

Must be a detailed and results-oriented Subject Matter Expert in migrating from a Novell environment to the Windows Network Environment and from GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange Environment for large organizations over 6,000 employees.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develop a functional specifications document to include Key design goals,  Summary of the existing environment,  Scope summary ,  Background information that places the solution in a business context, the solution design and architecture, from the conceptual, logical, and physical points of view, features and services that define the functionality of the solution, component specifications that define the products that will be used to deliver required features and services, dependencies on other projects or resources outside the project team's control
- Ensure that the master project plan and schedule created by external entities, which describes when each piece of the work will be done and shows how the work will be coordinated, are taking all dependencies into account. 

Perform the following assessment tasks to ensure the functional specifications are achieved: 

- Diagram the network including hardware and software. 
- Document any printers that need to be replaced. 
- Identify all types of information stored on the network 
- Identify all Novell-dependent software. 
- Review WAN/LAN links, and their available bandwidth. 
- Analyze the current namespace design. 
- Review user environment components involved in the migration. 
- Perform a directory health check.
- Determine which systems will be migrated or decommissioned.
- Determine the affected users, groups, objects, folders, files, databases, and e-mail systems (GroupWise or others). 
- Work with 3rd party vendors responsible for physical migration of the network. 
- Review and respond to communications to state outsourcing vendor on agency's behalf. 
- Review state outsourcing vendor communications to ensure messages are clear and succinct.
- Review 3rd party vendor's end-to-end test plan including communications, issues and risk management plans to ensure all critical systems are working appropriately during and after Migration for all end users. 
- Work with functional user groups to define new shared drive structure for the client and user access requirements for security purposes. 
- Plan for future hardware, software, and network capacity needs.
- Ensure the Solution Design and Architecture is appropriate for the agency's environment. 
- Monitor and manage all agency project activities from planning to closure.
- Perform risk assessments with management plans for top risks.

Qualifications

- Completion of a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and have five (5) years of Network planning experience in which you successful planned and/or implemented at least one Novell/GroupWise migration to Microsoft Windows Network/Active Directory/Exchange. 
- Candidate must have strong communication skills to work with end users to determine  design requirements to provide to the 3rd party vendor over the infrastructure, who  is responsible for the Windows Network implementation from Novell.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the qualifications listed above, possess the following:
- Have experience in both Windows abnd Novell network design and implementation with training certification in each.
- Have thorough knowledge of Network Configuration Policies and Groups.
- Experience working with Government
