Wi-Fi RF Trials Manager

Eingestellt von Resource Solutions - Ofcom

Gesuchte Skills: Engineering, Matlab, Network

Projektbeschreibung

JOB PURPOSE:

The role is to provide technical expertise and analytical support to the Technical Measurements Manager in investigating and developing complex measurement procedures for existing and emerging technologies operating in the Radio Frequency spectrum.

We have a short term requirement to provide expertise and leadership of a number of lab and field based trials investigating the potential for interference to Wi-Fi systems from emerging technologies in adjacent bands.

This Engineering Specialist post based at Baldock Radio Station will be involved in the scoping, delivery and interpretation of the effects of interference on Wi-Fi based systems and associated presentation and reporting of results

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

KEY OBJECTIVES/ACTIVITIES

- Lead the development of complex measurement procedures for existing and emerging technologies operating in the Radio Frequency spectrum. Initially this will involve measuring the potential interference from LTE systems to 802.11 Wi-Fi operating in the 2.4 GHz band.
- From initial scoping through to delivery of the final test procedure. This will be carried out via:
- Developing reliable measurement techniques and delivery of technical measurement trials as the technical lead to prove/validate the developed test procedures.
- Developing an understanding of the interference mechanisms and effect of emerging technologies such as LTE on existing services such as Wi-Fi.
- Working with other engineers to provide a technical authority role into the required technical instructions.
- Working with a range of internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement the test procedures and to develop a trusted advisor relationship.
- Carry out detailed analysis of the results and provide high quality technical reports, which support stakeholder decision making.
- Complete planning, project and programme management within the technical measurements team to ensure that projects are delivered in a timely manner and to a high standard.
- Assist with other reasonable tasks as instructed by the Technical Measurements Manager.
- Adhere to relevant Ofcom standards and policies to Ofcom policy and procedures

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

The successful applicant must have a blend of technical expertise and practical radio engineering and possibly gained in the radiocommunications industry or in an EMC testing, consultancy or spectrum engineering environment.

Experience should include:

- Excellent Radio Frequency (RF) engineering knowledge including propagation, interference mechanisms and RF modelling.
- Proven technical measurement expertise and practical knowledge of RF test equipment including: spectrum analysers; signal generators; RF receivers and antennas
- Detailed experience in working with a wide range of existing and emerging communication technologies (the 802.11 family of Wi-Fi standards in particular), to include interoperability, compatibility and co-existence.
- The ability to take complex technical measurement results, analyse them using software packages such as MATLAB and then draw conclusions from the results obtained.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey results and conclusions of the technical work to a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong communications skills required, with an ability to relate to people and be helpful but authoritative when necessary, conveying complex radio engineering issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrable ability to develop, lead and complete complex technical trials.
- Proven leadership and team building ability.
- Strong interpersonal skills as they will be working in a flexible and dynamic team environment, which is by definition often operating remotely from Baldock.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

- European and international technical standards and regulatory groups, experience/knowledge.
- Understanding of network planning and spectrum management tools such as ICS Telecom and SEAMCAT
- Government Security Clearance to SC level.
- A clean UK driving license and the ability to travel and work anywhere in the UK.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The post holder needs to be technically qualified to a minimum of degree level or to possess an equivalent level of experience.
