OVERSEAS PLACEMENT: Volunteering and Youth Project Advisor, Peru

PARTNER NAME: Asociación KALLPA

LOCATION: Cusco, Peru

LENGTH OF PLACEMENT: 12 months

ABOUT THE PARTNER ORGANIZATION

The KALLPA Association is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that has been working since 1990 in the field of health in schools and youth health education, with four regional offices (Lima, Iquitos, Ayacucho and Cusco). Soon KALLPA identified the need to expand beyond its specialization in health to address issues of employment and income generation, maintaining its focus on young people and their involvement in the process of defining sustainable communities. In the past few years KALLPA has also been supporting youth groups, who are basically composed by national volunteers, to strengthen their advocacy capacities to influence at governmental and private levels for better youth life conditions.

THE VOLUNTEER\'S ROLE

Overall placement purpose and specific volunteer placement objectives:

Since 2003, Cuso has developed the National Volunteering Program (NVP) to encourage people to participate in the development of their own countries and communities to reduce poverty and socioeconomic exclusion. The international volunteer will focus on the development of efficient strategies to identify, recruit, retain, monitoring and evaluate youth national volunteers and support advocacy processes related to national volunteering.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

- Support the design, validation and implementation of the National Volunteering Program in KALLPA Cusco
- Support to KALLPA staff in Lima to introduce the NVP as a management and institutional policy within the organization
- Create and validate tools to strengthen the process of recruiting, training and monitoring of new youth volunteers
- Design strategies to incorporate gender, cultural and right focuses within the NVP
- Network and create partnerships with different entities (universities, schools, youth groups, etc.) to identify potential national volunteers and promote NV in the community

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- University degree in social sciences, public administration or related field
- Technical skills and knowledge of program management and strategic planning
- Previous experience working with volunteers
- Previous experience working with youth leaders or civil society groups
- Previous experience designing and facilitating workshops

DESIRABLE

- Previous experience working at a Youth Employment Center
- Previous experience providing personalized advisory sessions to design and implement business plans, small business start-ups for poor and marginal youth

TRAINING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad.

This includes:

- Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates must cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs).
- Travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-departure training.
- Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency).
- Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and comprehensive health insurance.
- Accommodation while overseas.
- A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed
- Quarterly payments to support you in your placement
- Modest support for accompanying partners
