VM Ware Specialist

- VMware Certified Professional qualification (VCP5)
- must have a Negative Vetting Level 1 Security Clearance
- Contract to 30 June 2014 with 2 x 6 month extension options

We are seeking a VMWare Specialist for a Data Centre Relocation Project to complete physical to virtual and virtual to virtual migrations.

THE VMWARE SPECIALIST WILL:

- Perform Physical to Virtual (P2V) and Virtual to Virtual (V2V) conversions using VMware converter.
- Perform Physical to Virtual (P2V) and Virtual to Virtual (V2V) conversions using storage migration techniques.
- Liaise with application owners, test teams and other technical staff to plan and complete the migrations.
- Undertake testing of infrastructure and assisting with application testing.

Other duties include, but not limited to:

- In conjunction with managers, prioritise, analyse and complete tasks according to the nature and urgency of the request.
- Assist with hardware and software configuration within the standard Operating Environment (SOE).
- Provide 3rd level Support services for server infrastructure issues.
- Participate in resolver groups as part of the problem resolution process.
- Implement changes to departmental systems SOE strictly in accordance with departmental change control procedures.
- Ensure that the tasks and progressive action history are duly recorded and concluded to the client's satisfaction.
- Participate fully in the project management process and endeavour to achieve client outcomes in the most effective way.
- Maintain data and office security and system integrity in accordance with Departmental Security Instructions.
- As required, provide advice for ongoing maintenance of the ICT infrastructure.
- Transfer skills, provide documentation and exchange information to other members of the team.
- Other tasks as directed

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

- VMware Certified Professional qualification (VCP5)
- Requires demonstrated experience performing P2V and V2V migrations in a VMware vSphere 5 environment
- Demonstrated experience using VMware vCloud Director
- Detailed understanding of the Microsoft Server 2003 and 2008 operating systems.
- Detailed understanding of the Microsoft Active Directory technology
- Detailed understanding of storage technologies and how they pertain to VMware vSphere environments
