VIRTUAL SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR - SYSTEM ENGINEER
Location: Basel, Switzerland
Hours per week: 40

GENERAL INFORMATION
ROLE TITLE: VIRTUAL SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR - SYSTEM ENGINEER
ROLE PURPOSE
- Configure and administer the IBR (Institutes for BioMedical Research) IT Virtual Infrastructure
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support and Administer Vmware ESX server infrastructure including Vmware Virtual Center and peripheral virtualization technologies in backup, disaster recovery, and replication. Provide design, configuration and planning support for IBR virtual infrastructure
- Execute change management and provide support for scheduled, planned maintenance
- Implementation and post-installation responsibilities include technical consulting to end-user community and other infrastructure team.
- Providing virtualization technology solutions to existing problems.
-Support IBR virtual environment through issue troubleshooting and migration to future software versions.
- Provide technical expertise for the planning and definition of new system requirements: perform feasibility and performance studies, including benchmark, capacity planning, sizing, etc.
- Prepare and present technical product information to user community.
- Support and improve system environment and services (ie capacity planning and automation
- Write all related documentation (Validation docs, systems proposals/recommendation, etc).
- Participate in and leverage virtualization expertise to create a new company cloud management model utilizing new and existing automation tools
- Participate in data center efficiency improvements using virtualization technologies
(P2V and vm density improvement)
- Participate in researching and testing next generation technologies such as HP Flex technology, and additional hypervisor
- Assist in expanding IBR virtualization to global model and external cloud solution.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS/MEASURES OF SUCCESS
- Achieve agreed targets in terms of quality, time and cost.
- Ensure stable and well performing system environment.
- Apply professional competencies to administrate and optimize the assigned system environment.
- Implement levels of best practice (price/performance etc.).
JOB DIMENSION
- Member of a global team of ~30 system administrators
- Infrastructure deployed on all IBR sites globally
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- 5 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN WINDOWS AND/OR LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION in a global enterprise environment
- 3 years of experience with Virtual environment (ESX and/or HyperV) and cloud management.
- 1 year with hybrid cloud expertise (AWS or other public cloud)
- PowerShell Scripting for VMware Automation
- 7+ years in System design
- 3+ years in ITIL
- 5+ years in monitoring systems
- Communication skills
- Fluent in English
