VAT Manager

My client is a large Banking Group looking for a VAT Business Advisory specialist. The role will be responsible for the provision of advice in relation to VAT and ensuring that the business meets its VAT obligations.

This will include:

The review of proposed business transactions and new products
Ensuring VAT risk is managed in line with Group policies and standards
Providing training to key business contacts
Ensuring operational effectiveness and continuously improving the integrity of systems and controls including conducting risk and control analysis
You will work to the cluster lead.

Overall Job Purpose
Responsible for the provision of VAT advice in relation to VAT and ensuring that the business meets its VAT obligations

Key Accountabilities
Business advisory
Provide advice in relation to business transactions ensuring that VAT risk is appropriately managed in line with Group policies and standards
Provide training to key business areas as required
Provide adhoc support to other VAT team members where required

Compliance
Provide support in relation to reviewing cluster level consolidated return, as required.
Provide input and recommendations into systems development, including the development of best practice

Risk and Controls
Ensure operational effectiveness and continuously improve the integrity of systems and controls
Conduct risk and control analysis for indirect tax processes and identify areas where controls can be enhanced
Support periodic reviews and updates of key control and process documentation
Support internal and external audits

Strategy
Implement/interpret strategic initiatives
Assist in developing ideas, providing input and analysis to various VAT savings and mitigation

Initiatives
Support practical implementation and follow up of any planning initiatives

Person Specification
(minimum requirements)

Essential
ACA, FCA or relevant professional (eg Tax) qualification.
2 Years PQE of UK VAT experience in an advisory capacity
Excellent business, communication/influencing, relationship/partnership and planning/control skills
Ability to interpret complex issues

Preferred
Financial Sector Experience
Experience in IT systems
