Usability Researcher

Our client is the Pacific Northwest's leading software corporation seeking a qualified USABILITY RESEARCHER to design and conduct qualitative research leveraging a multitude of methods (observation, interviews, journals, video ethnography, etc.).

Primary responsibilities for this role will include:

- Creating new research methods if existing methods are insufficient for questions you are trying to answer
- Analyzing and interpreting data from all studies
- Navigating, synthesizing and triangulating data with secondary research
- Distilling the emergent rich data into consumable, compelling and actionable results, including the creation of frameworks and videos
- Partnering closely with researchers, designers, product planners, market researchers and program managers to have insights deeply impact the trajectory of their product work

Skills and competencies expected for this UX Researcher includes:

- Demonstrated experience designing qualitative research protocol, as well as organizing and executing field research
- Expertise in ethnographic research methods and strong analytic ability, especially with regard to observation of user behavior and organizing multiple streams of data for analysis
- Ability to develop creative approaches to researching complex user experience problems
- Strong written and oral communication skills a must - the ability to distill complex ideas into succinct thought and impactful storytelling to share those thoughts
- Passion for practical application of research findings
- Keen prioritization skills and ability to keep continual focus on what is most important
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to quickly build rapport and establish credibility, thrives in collaborative work
- Proactive, self-starter with strong work ethic and the ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments

Qualifications:

- MA or PhD in anthropology, sociology, social psychology, applied linguistics, communication studies, design or related field
- At least one year of experience designing qualitative research protocol
- At least one year of experience conducting and analysing ethnographic studies
- Ability to travel as required

Major pluses:

- Experience with applying ethnographic research to product development
- Experience with video capture and editing applications
