Unix Linux Administrator

DESCRIPTION

- Perform the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of networks and computer systems with UNIX and Linux operating systems.
- Design and deploy server backup architecture and systems.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot complex operating system and server hardware issues.
- Design, deploy and manage automation and centralized management tools such as Oracle Ops Center, HP SIM, Symantec Veritas Operations Manager and Puppet.
- Perform some programming and script writing.
- Provide technical and operational support to other departments and teams as required in support of business objectives.
- Create and maintain procedure and standards documentation.
- Provide expert level troubleshooting for applications and systems.
- Provide expert level technical support for UNIX related project activities.
- Build and modify highly complex systems to meet project and user requirements.
- Participate in design and code reviews.
- Provide mentoring and training to fellow administrators.
- Evaluate hardware and software requirements and influence purchase decisions.
- Configure and tune highly complex hardware and software to insure optimum performance and resource utilization.

SKILLS:

PREFERRED SKILLS

- 3-7 years UNIX/Linux Systems Administration (Preferably Solaris and RedHat)
- 3-7 years' experience using programming/Scripting language (eg PERL or Shell script)
- Thorough knowledge of server hardware
- 3+ years experience supporting production environments with 1,000 or more Servers
- 3+ years experience with volume management software such as Veritas Storage Foundation.
- 2+ years server virtualization experience including VmWare and Solaris LDOMs
- Understanding of SAN and NAS and how to connect Servers to storage
- Very strong knowledge of server clustering using VCS
- Thorough understanding of well known services and protocols such as NFS, NTP, and DNS.
- Demonstrated ability to turn customer requirements into a solid deployable system design.
- Be self-motivated and able to meet objectives with little or no direct supervision.
- Positive attitude and willingness to be a strong team player on a dynamic and excited team of smart and capable system administrators.
- Ability to work on rapidly changing deadlines in a fast paced environment without dropping the ball.
