Unix Application Supporter

For our client a global banking company located in Zurich, Harvey Nash is looking for a Unix Application Supporter for a 6-months contract.

This role is within the International Wealth Management organization, supporting a global business based out of Switzerland. We own, support and act as the gatekeepers of the Production environment for Trading & Sales systems used globally around the clock by thousands of users ranging from Relationship Managers and Credit Risk Managers to Traders and External Clients.

Our application platform is complex and built of a mixture of in-house developed and third party customized systems hosted on a variety of Operating Systems including SOLARIS, LINUX, WINDOWS, AND DATABASES INCLUDING ORACLE, MICROSOFT SQL SERVER AND SYBASE. The applications we support deal with thousands of critical trading and sales transactions each day - from pricing complex Structured Products through to managing Limit Orders in fast moving markets.Key Responsibilities

We have high expectations from our Production Support team, and rely on them to act as owners of the Production environment.

Key deliverables within this role include:

- Managing communication with internal clients within the Business and other IT teams (eg Application Development, Technology Infrastructure Services)
- Own and manage incidents through to resolution including investigating complex problems involving multiple systems and involving other IT teams as required
- Act as a leader during major incidents - helping to engage other teams as required and driving resolution of incidents having major impact to our business
- Act as a key stakeholder within development projects to ensure quality within software delivery and onboarding of knowledge from Application Development teams
- Performing out-of-hours work as required within a compensated and pre-allocated shift to provide support for application deployments and support of critical batch jobs/overseas businesses

The ideal candidate will frequently be required to work within a team of around 5-10 application support analysts, and will use their initiative in making sound decisions and judgments based on their Business and IT experience & knowledge.Essentials Skills and Qualifications

- Ideally 3-5 years' experience required
- EXPERIENCE IN SUPPORTING UNIX APPLICATION (EG HANDLING FILES, SEARCHING LOGS, CHECKING PROCESSES) - IT SUPPORT
- EXPERIENCE IN SUPPORT SQL APPLICATIONS AND QUERYING (ORACLE/MICROSOFT SQL)
- Strong team player
- Good listening

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

- Business knowledge in FX or Banking
