UNIX/AIX SENIOR SPECIALIST
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Unix management unit provides support for the base AIX/Unix operating system on Servers by implementing Operating System parameter configuration and version levels. These services include providing support for the Operating System configuration and associated file systems, log files, processes, problem determination, problem resolution, software, administration tools, utilities, security, and hardware.
This role's responsibility is day to day Unix/AIX 2nd and 3rd level support. Senior Unix/AIX System Administrators will provide enterprise-wide Unix System infrastructure support for complex system and interconnected technologies that require day-to-day support and administration in order to maintain optimum performance and utilization.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Working experience with AIX systems, VIOS, HMC, virtualization, PowerHA/HACMP, SAN-attached storage
- General knowledge and understanding of the TCP/IP protocol and networking
- Knowledge on security policies for Unix Servers
- Working knowledge on AIX NIM (Network Installation Manager)
- Standard administrator Scripting skills
- Shell, SED/AWK/Perl/expect
- Experience on supporting large environment and heterogenous environment
- Knowledge on the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)
- Readiness to learn
- Ability to work in a team
- English: Communicative
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:
- Working experience of administering mission-critical or high-availability systems (7x24)
- Disk arrays and SAN storage solutions
- Knowledge on Tivoli products
- Knowledge on ITIL processes
- Working experience in Linux RedHat/SuSE, Solaris and/or HPUX
- Working knowledge on IBM System Director and VMControl
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES:
- Install the server operating system, system management software and operating system utilities
- Manage High Availability solutions
- Manage virtualization
- Support the server operating system, system management software and operating system utilities, including upgrades and migrations
- Manage the operating system configuration
- Recommend operating system updates and configuration modification
- Maintain tools for remote management and alert monitoring
- Maintain the hardware and software configuration server information
- Responsibility for leading the implementation and support of the infrastructure
- Partners with the IT Architect during the initial stages of the projects/solutions to ensure the accuracy of business cases
The position enables further technical development as well as development in IT Architect role.
