UK Statutory Accountant

Projektbeschreibung

This role working together with the statutory accounting team is responsible for all statutory compliance for the Microsoft legal entities in United Kingdom and driving financial stewardship of these companies through adherence and compliance to Microsoft Accounting Policies, UK and International Accounting Standards and tax legislation.

The role also requires close partnership with the financial controlling team to assist in the management and accuracy of the UK P&L and involvement in ad-hoc projects, including business combinations and process & control improvement projects.

Key Accountabilities

Financial Control
* Managing relationship with our outsourced service provider for outsourced statutory accounting processes, ensuring on-going pertinence and compliance with Microsoft and local statutory requirements
* Responsible for managing the UK entity balance sheets, including management and review of all balance sheet account reconciliations
* Reviewing local systems and financial controls to ensure appropriate design & implementation and effectiveness, including continual review as the business continues to evolve
* Assess any changes in tax laws, UK company law and accounting policies to assess impact and ensure Microsoft UK compliance
* Periodic review of marketing activities to identify any tax exposure and initiating remedial action where necessary
* Supporting the financial controller and responding to ad-hoc requests
* Managing integration activates of UK business combinations

Treasury
* Maintaining relationships with local banks and other Group companies for in-house cash facilities
* Overseeing and maintaining the local UK bank account process including processing payments, banking miscellaneous receipts and maintain appropriate records
* Maintain bank signatory records
* Review of and input into monthly cash flow forecasting

Direct & Indirect Tax Compliance
* Manage annual processes for payroll taxes reporting/filings
* Responsibility for managing corporation tax and indirect tax processes and computations, taking responsibility to ensure accuracy of computations and timely filing with tax authorities
* Maintain effective relationship with our professional tax and accounting advisors leveraging these relationships to mitigate financial and compliance risk
* Manage relationship with European Tax Director and HMRC
* Management of statutory commissions and transfer pricing rules
* Business partnering and active advisory work on tax and commercial matters

Statutory Accounts
* Management of an efficient statutory audit process, working closely with our external auditors to ensure timely completion and filing of the annual statutory external audit and accounts for Microsoft UK subsidiaries
* Responsibility for keeping abreast of accounting developments and changes in UK company law and ensuring processes are in place to ensure these are reflected in the UK financial statements

Payroll, Incentives & Share based payments
* Review and oversight over payroll inputs and related accrual calculations
* Manage and co-ordinate monthly payroll review, approval and sign-off
* Responsible over incentive compensation accruals and processes
* UK contact for share-based payments ensuring the transactions are taxed correctly and accounted for in accordance with UK GAAP
* Ensuring technical information and employee communication is relevant and up to date
* Effective management of outsourced payroll providers
* Management of ad-hoc queries relating to monthly payroll
* Manage P11D process, working with HR and external advisors to ensure an accurate and smooth process

Key Success Criteria

* Maintenance of strong relationships with HMRC, outsourced suppliers, local banks and professional advisers
* Ensuring full compliance with Microsoft Accounting Policies
* Demonstrate a challenger mentality, drive processes improvements and simplification without compromising compliance or quality
* Full compliance with UK Statutory & Tax law ensuring all filings and returns are made on time every time
* Accurate tracking of payroll and incentive compensation expenditure and accruals

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have the following essential experience and have a proven track record of demonstrating the required and skills:

Experience
* Proven experience within a financial accounting/auditing role
* Worked in a team environment
* Corporate and employee tax understanding
* Strong technical accounting knowledge, including UK GAAP, IFRS and ideally US GAAP

Technical/Functional Skills
* High level of skill and knowledge in the following:
o Statutory accounting
o External audit
o Corporation tax
o VAT
o Payroll taxes

Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills

* Exceptional communication, cross group collaboration and interpersonal skills
* Highly motivated self-starter with a passion for challenging status quo and driving process efficiencies and implementing effective process change

Qualifications

* Minimum 2:1 in degree-level qualification
* Professionally qualified accountant (ACA preferred)
* Industry experience preferred
