ROLE

This post is primarily a user interface design role with responsibility for designing the overall user experience for the clients student services primarily in a web environment but increasingly for mobile and tablet devices. The knowledge and the ability to contribute in other skill areas is highly desirable.

The post holder will be required to undertake a defined set of developments to improve the interface and functionality of my clients personalised services to be delivered within the clients application framework. This will involve the design of consistent user interfaces and the provision of libraries of artifacts, images and templates.

The role requires involvement in the full software development life cycle from requirements analysis through design and build, testing and implementation and the support and maintenance of the resulting services. The post holder will work with colleagues across IT and functional areas in project teams to develop business led solutions for the client.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

- Degree level qualification, professional qualification or equivalent in related discipline
- Experience of project work, leadership, accepting responsibility and accountability for delivery
- Comprehensive web design experience including interface design for applications, cross browser support and design requirements for mobile/tablet devices
- Practical experience of usability and accessibility requirements and legislation
- Extensive technical expertise in web technologies including HTML4/5, XML, CSS2/3, JavaScript, SOAP web services, Client Side libraries (eg jQuery) and related standards
- Knowledge of related frameworks and knowledge of programming languages such as ASP.NET, C#, Java
- Experience of using version control systems such as Subversion
- Good understanding of the software development life cycle, framework and related methodologies
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including a proven ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Knowledge of providing and consuming web services
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners
- Good problem solving and analytical skills

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

- Expertise in AJAX, JSON, REST and Ruby
- Experience of SQL or MySQL databases and dynamic content driven websites
- Experience of working within a higher education environment 
- Experience of designing interfaces within a SharePoint framework
- Knowledge of open data principles and design of open data services
- Knowledge of relational database development and the analysis and reporting structured data
