THE JOB:

The Type 45 Major Upgrades Project Manager has total responsibility for the delivery of major Alteration and Addition (A&A) projects, as directed, to time, budget and agreed quality standards, ensuring they are properly controlled, monitored, analysed and reported in accordance with overall business (including Engineering function) and project specific (Type 45) requirements.

Provide leadership and direction to the whole project team and functional support areas and ensure that cross functional issues are quickly resolved.

RESPONSIBILITIES

TOP 5 MAJOR TASKS AND ACTIVITIES:

PROJECT MANAGEMENT/PLANNING

Provide vision, leadership and direction to the directed major A&A project teams, to ensure project objectives are understood and to enable a successful and safe delivery of all projects, ensuring customer satisfaction and competitive advantage. Ensure the projects are supported by up to date management and resourcing plans, work breakdown and programme schedules, and Risk & Opportunity Registers, and that all work and progress on the projects is monitored and controlled to complete on time and within budget. Hold meetings as necessary and provide appropriate reports internally within the T45 COM and to the Customer

(DE&S Equipment Project Managers).

GOVERNANCE

Manage the directed major A&A projects, in accordance with the Operational Framework and Life Cycle Management (LCM) process to ensure completion to budget, delivery date and agreed quality standard.

Lead application of the Design and Phase Review process within the directed projects. Co-ordinate the inputs to Design and Phase Reviews and contract reviews. Ensure that Maritime Services governance with respect to reporting of these activities is adhered to. Ensure the Management Plans, and any applicable Processes and SOPs are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect project activities and best practice. Ensure 'Lessons Learnt' are recorded and fed back into the business and to maintain a culture of continuous improvement.

CONTROL ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT

Full budgetary responsibility for the directed major A&A projects (current value in excess of £2M). Ensure that the projects' Control Accounts are managed and reported in accordance with project and customer require-ments. Perform actuals reviews and forecasting on a regular business cycle (at least monthly) and ensure that forecasts are consistent with plans/schedules/risks and contractual obligations. Ensure that changes are raised in a timely fashion. Manage the allocation of work within the cost account to relevant parties (eg internal or external suppliers), through work orders, purchase orders or sub-contracts as necessary.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

Develop and maintain positive, open and honest relationships with all stakeholders, whilst effectively managing risk issues and opportunities and where appropriate, maximising business growth without jeopardising delivery times.

MANAGEMENT REVIEWS

Ensure an appropriate frequency and standard of project reporting and delegated levels of authority are adhered to. Prepare and present management review material and reports relating to the projects in accordance with project and business (including Engineering function) reporting requirements, including visualisation meeting inputs.

THE INDIVIDUAL

KEY TECHNICAL SKILLS

Project Management skills, with demonstrable track record of delivering complex engineering projects in complex environments

Able to manage effectively conflicting priorities and deadlines and respond positively to tight deadlines

Experienced in Sub Contract Management

Control Account Management, including familiarity with budgeting, estimating, planning and scheduling principles, material procurement, and accounting, cost accounting, material and procurement management systems

RISK MANAGEMENT

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

BAE Systems Lifecycle Management (especially Design & Phase Review process)

Able to oversee the production and presentation of Detailed Design specifications and technical Statements of Work.

Credible presentation skills at senior level with ability to provide credible information, advice and guidance company wide.

Able to work under pressure, with ability to schedule, co-ordinate and maintain efficiency

Experience of ESM (Electronic Support Measures) and other naval combat system equipments

PC literate with a good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook
