Trials Manager, with significant experience in the conduct of weapons and sensors inspections, trials and acceptance required to join a leading defence company in Portsmouth. Please note, the successful candidate will be required to gain SC Clearance

This role is for a Weapons Engineering Trials Engineer with substantial experience in the inspection and acceptance of RN weapon and sensor equipment, magazines and ship-board aviation facilities, to join a small, closely knit team that delivers engineering inspections and assurance services across the ship repair and fleet time support projects based in Portsmouth Naval Base. This is a temporary post for the period Jun 15 to Jan 16. A similar full time position may become available thereafter.

The role involves:
The planning, preparation and conduct of progress, safety and acceptance inspections of weapon engineering systems, magazines and aviation facilities in RN warships undergoing deep maintenance.
The planning, preparation and conduct of whole ship trials such as Aviation Facilities Harbour Acceptance and Magazine and Explosives Stowages Inspections.
Preparation for and chairing take-on and wash-up meetings associated with inspections and trials.
Collating certification and supporting evidence in support of trials and inspections.
Creating written reports.
Maintaining a database of emerging defects, commissioning remedial work and tracking through to resolution.
Maintaining close liaison with Production and Commissioning engineers, Project Officers, Customer Representatives, Weapons & Sensors Trials Teams and embarked Ship's Staff.

As a Trials Manager your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Preferably BTEC HNC and you will have also served a recognised apprenticeship related to this job or you are able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
You will have significant experience in the conduct of weapons and sensors inspections, trials and acceptance and have a sound knowledge of general engineering standards applied to technical installations and systems.
Previous experience as a manager within a weapons or sensors department either in a seagoing post or in a waterfront support role would be a major advantage.
You will be able to read technical drawings and interpret technical guidance instructions.
You will have a working knowledge of Naval magazine and explosives regulations.
The role requires a person with a strong character who will act with integrity. Good communications and influencing skills are essential as is the ability to forge strong, productive working relationships within the team and project environments, and across engineering disciplines.
You will be a good time manager with the ability to work unsupervised.
You will be computer literate and be familiar with Windows 7, Office 2010 applications, MS Project and be confident to use database applications.
