The role will involve the management of multiple assignments in multi locations with engagements ranging from external audit support in auditing of and accounting and reporting for financial instruments through to supporting clients in developing and defining their financial risk management framework as well as evaluating the effectiveness of control frameworks over treasury activities.

The role can be based in either Glasgow or Edinburgh and will require significant travel to cover our network of clients across Scotland and the English regions.

The Senior Manager will be a qualified accountant with practical experience of accounting for financial instruments in an auditing and advisory capacity.  They will also have a strong grounding in controls work with experience of understanding and evaluating controls and making pragmatic, implementable recommendations to clients.  
The candidate must have strong interpersonal and communication skills including extensive experience of delivering client and internal presentations.

In the current climate due to the volatility in the market place and the increasing focus on cash, currency and credit within all organisations, the role of treasury has increased in prominence.  Clients wish to ensure that they continue to manage these risks effectively in a way that is aligned with their overall business strategy and that this is reflected in financial results.  Our clients are requesting that specialists can support them in this area in evaluating and benchmarking their effectiveness relative to others.
The Scottish Treasury team is part of the wider UK team which has the largest concentration of treasury specialists within the global firm and has been awarded the leading treasury consultant award by TMI for the 13th consecutive year.   To offer the best service, we have established a centre of excellence within Scotland of highly performing specialists who focus 100% of their time on treasury risk management across our client base, which comprises major corporate and financial services clients across the UK.
There are currently 5 people in the Scottish Treasury team which is led by an experienced a director and team of managers and senior associates.
The role will be 100% client facing with c20% of time in the office and 80% of time at client sites.
There is limited opportunity for working from home.

Examples of projects include:

Control and governance reviews of the treasury and trading operations (banking and energy clients)
Supporting clients develop risk management frameworks and financial risk management strategies
Benchmarking the comprehensiveness of client risk management strategies
Supporting clients in developing efficient cash management structures and processes
Devising effective hedging strategies
Providing external audit support for derivative and financial instrument balances and processes
Providing technical accounting advice on financial instruments under UK GAAP, US GAAP and IFRS
Training client staff on good practices within treasury risk management

 

Requirements

 

The following skills are essential for this role:

Chartered accountant or similar accounting membership
Experience of reviewing the controls within banking institutions/ experience of energy trading/ experience of working within a corporate treasury function
Understanding of financial instruments and risks created and methodologies for managing risk across a range of organisations
Practical experience of treasury operations and risks including understanding of good practice
Practical application of current accounting standards for financial instruments under UK GAAP, US GAAP and IFRS
Previous experience of managing teams, ideally in a treasury capacity
Ideally having a mix of both practice and industry experience
Ability to build relationships both from an internal and external point of view and use these relationships to develop a wide network
Strong communication skills to facilitate training sessions and client presentations (both verbal and written)
Self starter with strong interpersonal skills

Desirable skills include:

Knowledge of current regulatory developments impacting treasuries within financial service organisations
Experience of treasury management systems
Association of Corporate Treasurers qualification
