Transformation Director/General Insurance

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide Executive leadership and oversight of the Transformation Programme. The role is key to delivery of the General Insurance Business Strategy and Plan. Working with the Executive & Board, the role holder will identify and manage risks to the overall achievement of the business' transformation journey. To help deliver our strategy by mobilising and executing a portfolio of business critical programmes, projects and initiatives.

- Transformation budget of £xx
- Holding Executive Sponsors to account for delivering short and long term commercial results in line with Programme benefits cases which significantly contribute to strategic success
- Significant impact & contribution to achievement of financial imperatives eg cost reduction
- Manages a small team of PMO
- Typically works to a 2-5 year planning horizon with a detailed 12 - 18 month rolling plan for in-flight programmes, projects & initiatives.
- Plays a key role in business planning

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

- Set up and on-going leadership of a Transformation Management Office (TMO). Definition of the roles required for a successful TMO. Recruit, attract & retain internal and external talent and build an effective team. Establishing the change framework, including building a 'fit for purpose' transformation office that provides intelligence, oversight and control of strategic initiatives enabling the achievement of GI's transformation journey and providing change thought leadership.
- Development of GI specific project and change management processes that can be adopted by all parts of the business to ensure a structured and consistent approach to the successful execution of programmes, projects and initiatives.
- Transformation portfolio co-ordination and reporting. Provide effective control, oversight of the progress of the transformation programmes, projects & initiatives. This will include working with the Executive Committee to ensure that delivery remains on track and to provide effective 'recovery' interventions when required. The role holder will also be required to provide fact-based, intelligent insights and recommendations to the Executive Committee based on status & progress.
- Programme & Project Delivery. Where programmes & projects are considered highly critical to the achievement of business imperatives the role holder may have direct delivery accountability.
- Develop relationships with the Executive and business unit leaders to provide transformation and project delivery advice, counsel and guidance. Embed change practices across the organisation.
- Manage the Transformation Budget
- Team leadership of the TMO - providing vision, purpose and direction to the team and performance and development support to individual colleagues.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

- Significant experience of working at a senior/director level in the change & transformation space - ideally in organisations with highly complex stakeholder landscapes (including regulated)
- Experience in the general insurance sector and of managing a significant re-platforming exercise
- Experience at a senior level in a consultancy/client facing organisation would be beneficial.
- Proven track record of building & leading successful change teams in the management and oversight of complex change portfolios, business design, transformation management and delivery assurance
- Experience in balancing & managing multiple internal 'customers' at a senior level in the development and execution of complex change programmes.
- Demonstrable experience of establishing culture, organisation, processes and tools for PMO excellence in a large and complex organisation
- Experienced in a broad range of change initiatives providing the ability to provide content advice and support as well as generic discipline support.
- Experience in leading and/or supporting commercial deals of significant size would be ideal.
- Has established a strong external industry network in the change space and understands how to get specialist and urgent needs met via resource augmentation models and specialist organisations.
- Evidence and detailed knowledge of change frameworks and the tools to support it.
- Credible and influential up to Board level
- Able to communicate, engage and energise at all levels
- Experience of operating at a strategic level in large diverse commercial organisations, providing clarity of direction for others to follow
- Excellent presentation, facilitation and influencing skills
- Experience of managing third party suppliers
- Experience of planning to a minimum 2 year time horizon
