Track Engineer

TITLE: Role purpose: To produce detailed specifications, TRACK ENGINEER/ASSISTANT TRACK ENGINEER

- Produce track specifications to support the obligation to maintain and improve the safety and ride quality of the track.
- Responsible for the delivery elements of track specifications to specified deadlines.
- Agree training and development needs with Senior Track Engineer.
- Technical liaison with Maintenance and Planning Directorates.
- Proven experience in a railway environment or similar. Numerate and methodical approach to work. Good communicator, both orally and in writing.

TITLE: TRACK ENGINEER REPORTS TO: SENIOR TRACK ENGINEER

- Copes and reports for all aspects of track renewal and upgrading works to ensure that technical, safety, quality and financial requirements of the company are achieved.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Produce track specifications to support the obligation to maintain and improve the safety and ride quality of the track
- Setting scope of track survey and track monitoring schemes
- Setting scope of advance works such as asbestos surveys and geotechnical investigations. Where necessary, implement these works.
- Responsible for the delivery elements of track specifications to specified deadlines
- Agree training and development needs with Senior Track Engineer
- Technical liaison with Maintenance and Planning Directorates
- Mentoring of Track Technical Engineers Effective Working Relationships:
- Responsible for production of track scopes and specifications.
- Reporting staff are as follows:
- Technical staff - Undertaking detailed analysis, drawings and reports
- Communicating regularly with staff to monitor programme and progress
- Reporting weekly on overall progress

Responsible for provision of co-ordinated workscopes and specifications for track renewal and upgrade with:

- Signal Services Engineer
- Electrical Distribution Engineer
- Drainage Engineer
- Bridge Engineer
- Civil and Structural Engineer

The Track Engineer is ultimately responsible for the production of a final specifications including reports and drawings to the Senior Track Engineer

EXPERIENCE:

- Proven experience in railway or similar operationally complex and safety conscious environment. Those with lower standard of formal qualification must have considerable relevant experience
- Aware of CDM regulations relating to design and construction
- Fit to work on the track, at heights and in confined spaces
- Computer Literate, particularly with computer aided design packages
- Experience of having own work checked and checking of others
- Good communicator, both orally and in writing
- Able to prepare calculations, drawings and specifications
- Able to work unsociable hours
- Able to interface with consultants and contractors
- Knowledge of forms of contract
